The latest game in EA Sports' snowboarding SSX series has been announced, and it takes a turn for the serious this time around with Deadly Descents. Fortunately, it's a change for the better.

Makes sense really as EA used the humor and hyper real gameplay to make up for the lack of visuals. These days they can make a visceral and exciting snowboarding game without the need for all that wacky shit as graphics are just that good.

Which is something I hate about gaming these days. Why do developers feel the need to make everything serious/realistic just because graphics are better?

GTAIV is the worst GTA to date (that doesn't mean I think it's bad, just disappointing) because of the realism and drama put in it.

I was interested in SSX when I heard they were making a new one. Then I found out it was going to be serious, now I have 0 interest in the game.

They now have the tools to make it work.. Most games that are quite humorous probably started life as a really serious title until hardware limitations got in the way. Most games Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, SSX etc.. Had they been invented now would have probably been serious and realistic looking titles, thanks to the PS1 and PS2 with shitty visuals not allowing much realism at all that they opted for humor over anything else.

It could be that there simply are no serious Snowboard games out there anymore. Shaun White was awhile ago, and there's no more Amped which was Xbox exclusive in the first place.

Seems like there should be a serious one before there would be over the top ones anyway. Like madden existed long before Blitz came out.

I agree with the above. There hasn't been a good snowboarding game in awhile, and I loved SSX:Tricky for the Playstation 2. Unfortunately, my knowledge in this catagory is limited as that's the only snowboarding game I've ever owned
