Has Call of Duty gone downhill since the first game?

The writer feels that Call of Duty has gone south since the first outing with weapons that are overpowered, maps that has gotten significantly smaller. When they attempted to correct this in World at War we were given a very buggy product.

I thought this appropriate after hearing the release numbers for the latest game in the series (Black Ops). Hearing that it had the biggest release day, beating Modern Warfare 2, and also had the most money spent on it for development, I expected…more.

    its inevitable when they crap out a new one every year. meanwhile you have competitors like Battlefield which releases games a couple years apart.

    Call of Duty 4 was the last game in the series that had any real innovation. Everything else after has tried to take a major step forward but always ends up tripping or taking another step back.
