It has been 5 years since the announcement of Versus 13 and yet when it was announced all of the hype was directed toward FF 13. Now, that FF 13 has released, you would think that we would have gotten new info, however do we even care anymore about Versus 13?

Square Enix was extremely busy in 2006. In addition to completing and releasing Kingdom Hearts II and Final Fantasy XII, the publisher announced three games at E3: Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Agito XIII, and Final Fantasy Versus XIII. This trio was collectively called Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII, with each game supposedly connected to the others by a common world or theme, though each would have its own plot, characters, and timeline. Since then, only one of those games has been released, and FFXIII took years of development and was still met with extremely mixed reviews. Almost five years since that initial announcement, with barely any noteworthy progress to announce on Versus XIII, it’s hard not to wonder if the project will ever be complete. And even if the developers pick up the pace and get it out in the next year or two, will it even matter? Will any gamers still care?

This article goes off on so many different vaguely linked tangents that I just don't know how to respond. He goes on about how it's sorta a sequel, that the game was announced at a weird time, that XIII was good, that info and screenshots didn't immediately come pouring out after the other game released.

Just wait until the game comes out, and then decide if the time was worth it. And if you really must question things, then do so with clear and well built points. Not a random list and some misgivings.

Based on FFXIII, Versus doesn't look good. You really don't need this much time on game, more than 2 years is kinda pushing it...

You realize a lot of your big titles are in development for 3 to 4 years right? Even games like COD that get released every year don't have just a year of dev time, their teams have probably already started making the next 2 or 3 games in the cod series.

Maybe I should rephrase my post... :/

I know they we're working on FFXIII for the most part when they announced Versus up until it's release where Versus actually got a full team instead of the previous partial one it had. But why announce it like 5 years off from when it hits. It's like waving candy in a kids face and telling him you can have it when your older. Just announce it when you know your getting a lot closer to release ffs.

Oh that I can agree with 100%. I wouldn't say the team behind the game are entirely responsible for that though. From what I've heard FFXIII was basically in standby for the first three years of development, and that in the end the Versus team had to give them a tow. If FFXIII had actually been handled correctly Versus would have been here a year ago, maybe two. They definitely could have waited a bit, but the circumstances were really beyond their control.

It was announced at a bad time, yet. However, the recent trailer has shown the FF fans plenty of positive things. The trailer has gotten MOSTLY (almost all I have seen) very positive reviews. Not sure what it means for a game to matter though? No game ever released really matters.

I can't stand when people talk stuff down before it's even close to coming out.

Same shit happened with FFXIII. Versus XIII looks phenomenal from the footage shown so far; I'd much rather the time be taken to make it a great game than for their team to pop out BS games faster than white trash babies in a trailer park.

The trailer that was recently shown and taken down, already looked a shit load better than FFXIII.

Don't own FFXIII and likely never will but Versus XIII on the other hand already looks like a game I will buy on release day.

I was gonna buy FFXIII as well, but seeing the gameplay videos of nearly constant menu-surfing and hitting combat encounters like every two minutes put me off completely. Versus has always intrigued me far more, which makes it sting even more that it's not due until 2012, not to MENTION the fact that there's the potential that the Versus team will get pulled to help with FFXIII-2 (which is, imho, a completely unnecessary sequel).
