Digital Distribution as we know it started in 1999 with Napster. Napster connected people in a peer to peer (P2P) network for the first time, and allowed them to share their files with one another, namely music files. This was a fantastic innovation, although unfortunately a humongously illegal one as it allowed copyright protected media to be shared for free. None the less, Napster set the foundations for the rest of Digital Distribution to follow.
