With the recent announcement of Final Fantasy XIII-2, Square's loyal fanbase were left scratching their heads, wondering "Really?" Has Square Enix lost touch with what fans really want?

If I had to pinpoint where Final Fantasy went wrong, I’d say it’s when they started to modernize things. Increased graphic capabilities made things that were not previously silly, such as having a protagonist that was a teenager, into a ridiculous thing. When you then equipped them with these modernized takes on classic weaponry (gun sword, anyone?), it was hard to understand why.

Yes, SE are still relevant, they are possibly the one company I most look forward to RPGs from, along with Atlus and possibly Namco Bandai.

I've enjoyed all the SE games I've bought so far so bring on more!

God, I am so *bleep*ing tired of all the SE bashing. So you didn't like FFXIII, suddenly the company is irrelevant? Are you serious? How childish are you people? Give their new games a chance before you write them off as irrelevant you might, oh, I dunno, enjoy them?

Yeah me too, what annoys me the most is that they tried something different and just got bashed for it and now people are saying they are past it!

How many FF games we got coming out in the next year?

I am pretty sure Agito for PSP and Versus XIII for PS3 are coming out this year, not sure about XIII-2.

Actually, it's looking like XIII-2's coming out toward the end of this year, and Versus XIII probably won't make it to shelves until sometime in 2012. I'm very much looking forward to XIII-2, but man, Versus XIII looks phenomenal.

I agree with you, though, I'm sick of this kind of bullshit that's primarily used to get some cheap, quick attention. I'd say it's the two-dollar hooker of journalism, but I don't want to degrade the two-dollar hookers.

As much as I didn't like 13, I still look forward to future FF games. They aren't all the same you know?

SE is quite relevant, a large amount of the western base views it as the face of the JRPG genre. Atlus and NIS, while growing in popularity, still only control niche markets out of japan.

I am so happy with all the positive comments on this one. Even though FFXIII was not the best FF game in the franchise, it is still a solid RPG. Not only that but there are numerous other games (even with Final Fantasy in the title) that have succeeded. I dare someone with intelligence to say something bad about the Dragon Quest series, the Kingdom Hearts series. I am looking forward to all 3 Final Fantasy titles they have on their plate. SE is very relevant to the industry.
