Game Podunk blogger, Matthew Root writes a reaction piece to the recent contemplation of the release of Grand Theft Auto V coming out in 2011. Read on for more....

On February 9, Gamasutra ran an article concerning the possible release date of Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) which contained quotes from industry analysts including Michael Pachter. The article in question was very tempered in its assertions and had a restrained title that read “Analysts: With Max Payne On 'Back Burner', Will Rockstar Reveal GTA V In Fiscal 2012?” However, by the end of the day the story had been picked up by several other gaming media outlets, some small and some quite large, and the online game of telephone had morphed the story into a declaration of the game’s impending 2011 release. Unfortunately, this has created hopes in gamers that will go unrealized because GTA V will not be coming in 2011; here’s why.

I dunno there's some good points.

Only things that bother me are, I don't think releasing GTA V in fall would have that much effect on L.A. Noire.

Then it says that a November release would have GTA V going up against some heavyweight competition. GTA is about as heavyweight as it gets. Other games are afraid to go up against GTA, not the other way around.

GTA isn't half as big as it was before IV launched. GTA IV split the entire fan-base some loved it, some hated it and because of that I don't think going in at November against the likes of Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3 it would not fair too well.

IF you're willing to drop an entire franchise after a half-dozen great games because one was disappointing then I really don't know what to say.

Even after that though, GTA IV was a fantastic game, just some really bad decisions were made, most of which were highly experimental in the first place.

Cuz it's not done yet? Seriously, some of the writers need to come up with something relevant to write about. "Why GTAV won't come out in 2011"? Sheesh.

Well, Skyrim is in November and was announced just a couple months ago, and Rockstar is notoriously secretive.
