Robert Bowling from Infinity Ward has recently declared in CVG that a new Engine for the next Call of Duty would be "counter-productive". This is a reaction about these words wondering what would be CoD games if there are no evolution in the next years.

Robert Bowling, the Infinity Ward Creative Strategist has said that “building a new engine for the Call of Duty franchise “would be counter productive”.”

Like you, I’ve watched and watched again the Battlefield 3 in-game trailer, compared what antialiasing means for the Forstbite 2 engine and appreciated the quality of an upcoming FPS such as Crysis 2. I must say Robert Bowling words make me think of a joke, at first!

"We're making millions of millions of dollars with every game we make, why the *bleep* should we spend that making something when we would make the same amount of money anyway?" - Essentially what they are trying to tell us.

As long as people keep buying it, why should they care about what they crap out next?

Unfortunately... Some devs are more about the money than their community.

          What?? **looks around, lost** What?!

I only say some because there's also some great devs out there that have the right balance of community and profit, such as Insomniac and Naughty Dog. I didn't want to exclude the rarities

Some implies an amount less than half. That is hilarious to me.

          You meant to say most.

True . . . Most, not some. Especially considering I myself really only know of the two main ones I listed!

It's dying, Infinity Ward did all the work on that franchise. Their games always featured the new engine, and the best ideas. Infinity Ward is broken, most of their key guys are gone, and their scrambling to put something out there this fall.

This would be the perfect time to take a year of of CoD and figure out a new strategy but Activision won't have that. They'll ride this into the ground like Tony Hawk.
