Gameplay Today posted the first part in what they've said will be a long-running series covering the greatest innovations and leaps in technology for console gaming.

The world of videogames is easily one of the most amazing fields of business, especially considering the relative youth of the industry when compared to other similar entertainment industries. For many, it seems like movies have been a source of entertainment forever. Videogames however, only became main-stream in the late 1970s. Despite its youth, videogames have gotten more and more impressive, and with good cause – lots of innovation. Young gamers might think XBL and PSN or the Nintendo are the biggest innovations ever. The three big consoles of this generation certainly have a lot to be proud of, but a lot of things had previously happened to get us to where we are. We’re going to be looking at the biggest innovations and leaps in technology that got us to where we are in gaming today throughout this multi-part feature because gaming just has too much to cram into one write-up.
