Very good article and certainly hits the nail on the head. I work in the gaming industry and while yes it is great fun, it is still work and should be treated like any other job. There will be bad bits, boring bits and bits you don't like but that's why it is called "work" and not "Play-time while you are being paid"

But this is the problem with the gaming industry, because the industry creates games, everyone's first impression is that people play the games or do nothing but play and have fun.

Sure, developers do play the games but not at the rate everyone expects them to play them. I am a community representative myself, so I am somewhat expected to jump into the game every now and then but my core job role is to give the team feedback about the community and keep the homepage updated with news, whether it is about the game or the community.

However, even I thought the same about a games tester, I would love to be one, even now and I do get my chance to do Q&A but I did literally think that I would be paid to play and test games. It was only until I started researching and asking game companies for information that I realised there was more to it.

Overall, the gaming industry is no different to any other industry, it is a job, a way to pay bills and live life but I certainly don't regret being in the industry...it's what I am good at and something I know about.
