Having to swap discs on video games never used to be a problem in past generations. Why is it that so many gamers complain today when games, such as L.A. Noire, are released on multiple discs?

They have no right to bitch about it. Would they rather not get the game at all?

It was never a problem in the old PS1 days, playing a FF game you only swapped disc every 15-20 hours anyway.

Also isn't funny how we have gone from "its on 3 discs so it must be good" to "haha, you have to swap discs"

Yeah, it would be different if multiple discs meant you had to pay more but you don't so I don't see it as a problem.

totally. i was really happy when i heard ME2 had 2 discs, cause that meant there would be lots to do. still only ended up being about 35 hours with both but good god there was tons of dialog and things to do. especially in a day when campaigns are only around 10 hours average.

I don't really give two damns about disc swapping really, I'm used to it after playing all the Final Fantasy's anyway.

Hell, I'm even buying LA Noire on my 360 instead of my PS3.

Odd choice, considering there's no multiplayer in L.A. Noire to dictate which community you'd game with. Is it a controller design preference matter?

Strange. I guess you really don't mind multiple discs. You opt out of the version with 1 disc for the version that has 3?

Yeah, I've had my 360 since launch and my PS3 since January, I've said since buying the PS3 that it's really just there for console exclusives (Because the PS3's exclusives are fricken intense) My 360 is my main gaming console and changing discs just doesn't bother me anymore these days.

Only goes to exemplify why MGS4 would have been ridiculous on the 360. Ridiculous in a negative way. It baffle me that they wouldn't care if a game came packaged with 6 discs.

I can't really comment on the aches and pains of multi-disc games because I haven't had one since FFIX. But even then it wasn't a big deal to me, probably because I knew the disc space couldn't handle more than what they could hold. It's different nowadays because you have all sorts of jargon that wasn't available on the PS1. You have all these fancy features that take up quite a lot of space, not to mention the length of some of these games, you'd think they would have adopted a media device that could hold all that stuff on one disc.

But I guess you really can't blame MS since Blu-Ray was new 5 years ago (that and Sony was/is it's biggest supporter). I'd be dumbfounded if Blu-Ray isn't in the next Xbox though.

MS at the moment are working on their own form of disc as far as I know, the new discs that will be coming out for the 360 can hold about 12gb of space.

Doesn't sound like much but it's an improvement for now, plus I can't really see why MGS4 on the 360 would be that much of a problem, it'd come down to about 4discs, which is the same as Lost Odyssey.

I heard about that before, but 12 GBs of space for the next Xbox? That's insane, that's not even half of what a regular Blu-Ray disc can hold, why would they do that?

They should AT LEAST try to get HD-DVD on the next system even though it's old. Blu-ray would be even better, I don't see how it's even remotely a downside to use it.

No no you don't see what I'm saying, as of now it's about 12GB of space for the new discs, for the new console it can only improve from there, sorry if I worded it all wrong.

And Gamesta 5 discs ain't so bad at all really, but meh I have MGS4 on my PS3 so I couldn't care

If MGS4 were made for the 360 exactly how it was on PS3 then it would need 5 discs.MGS4 took up a whole 50GB disc.

          I don't care either as I have MGS4 on PS3

And only 1GB of that was actually allocated to gameplay

theres a lot they could compress to shrink the size down without taking away a whole lot. like audio and cutscenes. they could get it down to 3 or 4 discs. thats not really that bad.

Because at the time ( I don't know about now) there was no way the 360 could handle MGS4, even if it was using 10 discs, it wasn't just a matter of disc space. And if the 360 were able to handle it now, they aren't about to re-release a 3 year old game, that just so you know has and always will be an exclusive series (minus games starring Raiden)

Where on earth did you read that? You can't just change how much space a DVD has. A double layered disc can only have up to around 8.5 GB.

I don't really care about swapping discs but I would have preferred that games that come on multiple discs on the 360 can be averted by just installing all discs and keeping disc 1 in the tray. Problem averted for those with enough space on their HDD.

that would be ideal if it was like that but the only way to do that would be including a Live code you have to redeem in order to install the discs so that people couldnt share them back and forth. or alternately let you download them from the Marketplace. otherwise you get the Dragon Age Origins Ultimate problem with a lot of game content that you are free to install on any console.

Mass Effect bugged me because you had to occasionally switch, like it wasn't a point where you go from one to the other, you'd just occasionally pick a quest that was on the other disc.

Still a minor gripe though, getting Noire on PS3, cause I'd rather not switch but if I only had a 360 I wouldn't not buy it because of it.
