PlayStation Network's "Welcome Back" package is a great value for users who don't own all of the offered content, however, is it possible Sony have overlooked the average user who was most severely affected by the outage? The "Hardcore" gamer?

Hardcore gaming doesn't mean online gaming, why do people nowadays believe that to be so?

BCUZ ONLY US COOL DUDZ PLAY JUST MOD3RN W4RF4R3 ONLIN3!

I hate it too, it's annoying how being a hardcore gamer is just playing games online, that's just insanely casual to me.

Totally agree, its the online crowd that are casuals to me

I know I'm happy with that.

Anyone who thinks being a hardcore gamer means playing online games only is a complete moron.

I rarely play online so does that mean I'm not a hardcore gamer even though I have been gaming for 20 years and buy many consoles on release, get special editions of games, play almost every genre of game and buy gaming related things?

    quote Me
Gamers who only play online are not hardcore gamers. They are as casual as most people who play the Wii.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is a moron.

We're being given two full free PS3 games. If that's not good enough, nothing will satisfy you.

      Hitman0769 May 17, 11
The genre most gamers play online is shooters. We weren't able to go online. THE ONES WHO PLAY ONLINE MOST ARE SHOOTER FANS!!! Therefore the ones affected most were those who play shooters!!! So why not offer a SINGLE THING to us shooters? Not to mention these games are all really old and the supporters of PSN who play the most already own most of them or didn't really want them in the first place otherwise they would have bought them.

Your one of the people we were just talking about, you know, the casual idiots who always play online and nothing else?

YOUR BEING GIVEN 2 FULL GAMES FOR FREE SO *bleep*ING SORRY IT'S NOTHING TO DO WITH SHOOTING GENERIC ARMY PEOPLE.

        longview01 May 17, 11
        2 full games....

Whats the point of giving the casuals another shooter, they won't part from the cod or whatever generic shooter is the trend at the moment.

          Hideo1 May 17, 11
I dunno, he has a point. The mass people affected were CoD-babies and general FPS-retards. If you offend a devout Muslim it doesn't make sense to offer them bacon as recompense.

Which isn't to say they aren't ungrateful crybabies, but I'm just saying.

Longview also has a point. Why bother giving shooter fans a free shooter if they're not going to play it? If a shooter fan loves COD, he's not going to switch off for another shooter just because it was free. Better to make the free game something different so that it's actually worth using.

Simply getting PSN back is reward enough for most shooter fans. All they want is to get back on the servers and start pwning nubs again.

Plus, you can't give out millions of free copies of a brand-new headlining game. Giving something like that out for free robs the developers of the profit they need to compensate for the development costs. The games they are offering are ones that have been out for some time, and offering them for free doesn't really hurt the developer.

Map packs and DLC, CoD-related PSN avatars/icons, shooter related themes and thus forth would have worked just as well.
        • 0
          Bale Fire May 18, 11
Nobody cares about icons and themes, and the DLC and Map Packs would be useless to large numbers of people who don't own the games. This is also ignoring the fact that Sony promised full fledged games, not expansion packs, as well as that all this would require the third party developer to support Sony, with huge losses to it's income.

I have a younger cousin, a casual gamer who spends his gaming time on CoD and the like. A child, like most of the people who play those games, and he'd have absolutely loved to have a shooter theme or some shooter icons so his PS3 could look '1337 lololol'

You people seem to be misconstruing what I'm saying (which especially *bleep*ing hilarious for you, Red, considering exactly how many people misconstrue what you say constantly); I'm not saying they should have done that and that shooter fans are owed anything, alright? People should be grateful for what they've got and frankly they paid for a PS3, they don't pay for the PSN service, so unless they have PS+ they have no right to bitch and moan about anything to do with the blackout.

But if you're trying to win back a demographic (which in this case is to say, online users) it would make sense to give away free things that they would actually appreciate, rather than stuff they won't.

Your younger cousin sounds like a douche.

          Bale Fire May 18, 11
So you're saying your younger cousin, if he exists at all, would prefer icons and themes instead of actual games or content? Not that the opinions of one hypothetical person mean anything for the demographic as a whole anyway.

He is a douche, as are most pure FPS console gamers.

Let's not repeat things we already know.

And yes, Bale, he would prefer themes or icons related to things he cares about rather than games he doesn't care about at all.

But 'herp derp you aren't 100% agreeing with us so you must be arguing against us lololol we can't see any other side than our own' well done again, Gamegrep.

Interest doesn't come into it though. I hate sports games for instance, but I would still pick one over icons or themes for any of my favourite franchises, no question.

And as a side note, if someone really can't summon any interest in any of the games offered, then I'm surprised they own a console. There's a game for almost every genre.

          Hideo1 May 18, 11
Right, but these are douchey shooter fans who play nothing but douchey shooters so of course they aren't interested in anything else because (as established a million times over) they're douches.

You're defending an argument I'm not attacking, and attacking an argument I'm not making. Muslims and bacon.

Then the shooter fans should be happy being able to try some games they wouldn't usually play because they wouldn't pay for them. I mean if most online gamers are shooter fans then they more than likely haven't played LittleBigPlanet and inFamous making this pack great for them..

I love Sony more than most ppl but I am calling them out for this one!
    • 0
      Bale Fire May 17, 11
Calling them out for what exactly? Handing out a great selection of awesome free games?

The only legitimate complaint I can possibly agree with is that some people already own all the games. Still, there's not much Sony could have done about that. Some people were going to own them all, now matter big the variety or quantity was.

      longview01 May 17, 11
Calling them out haha, no one expected full retail games. All the comments on forums were like "don't expect anything good just some shitty mini's"

They give away good games they are damned, they give away shitty games they are damned.

This generation has spawned some serious selfrightous spoilt brats

Oh shit, generic shooter boys calling out Sony! Whatever shall we do?!!?!

Oh I know, we'll just laugh in his stupid face for being so damn ungrateful!

Didn't say anything about "full retail games" how about something in the shooter genre in general though as one of the items? None!

Casual shooter fans arn't gonna leave their generic games for something not as well advertised.

We get a month of Playstation Plus for free as well. Does this mean we can download things PS+ users can download for free, and keep them? Or will they lock out after the month?
    • 0
      FinalFantasyFanaticc May 17, 11
Unfortunately Sony have said that anything offered for PS+ users will lock out after a month unless you renew your subscription =/

Cause you know playing shooters makes you infinitely more hardcore then somebody who puts 50 hours into an RPG. I think the author missused hardcore when he should have put addicted.

Sucks that I own pretty much all the good things they're offering. Maybe I'll finally beat Infamous though, my disc freezes on the same mission every time.
