Knowing that Capcom has a great thing going with the series, director Takashi Miike put himself at the helm of the film project. At first, it seems like a supremely unusual decision. In fact, when this was just a rumor it seemed like the craziest thing I'd heard in a while. It's true that Miike has worked on a video game adaptation before of Yakuza (Like a Dragon) but that was an altogether much more "mature" game to begin with.
