So who is John Carpenter? Game Podunk blogger, DoctorStrangeLove writes that this person has substantially influenced gaming. Read on to see how so....

First and foremost let's state the obvious, Escape From New York is 100% one of the biggest influences on the MGS series ever. The look of the characters, their names, even some of the settings influenced MGS in some way. Not that you have to believe me or anything... Just, ya know Hideo Kojima, creator of the series said so himself that Escape From New York was a big influence so I guess that's all the proof I need! Shame on you for doubting me. Obviously there's the code name of the main character in MGS1 being Snake, and the fact that he was injected with a deadly virus before starting the mission under the impression that the injection was something that would help him. Then we move on to MGS2! While my memory is slightly fuzzy, I know for a fact that Snake's new code name for this game was Plissken. (oh geez the name of the main character in Escape from NY!) And then we complete the Escape from New York triangle by putting Naked Snake in an eyepatch. Sure, the stories vary by absolutely huge amounts, but would the series be nearly as popular if it wasn't for the original seed planted by John Carpenter?!

I'm surprised this wasn't attached to the most recent Duke Nukem game, considering the article makes the claim that a character Rowdy Roddy Piper portrayed in the 1988 film They Live turned out to be the inspiration for Duke Nukem.

His character stated: "I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I'm all outta gum" before going on a rampage wilder than Hulkamania.

Well if we are gonna go down that route Duke takes alot of inspiration from Ash in Evil Dead so I guess Sam Raimi must of reinvented gaming....
