There has been a recent trend in gaming development of remaking classic video games for the new generation. Is this a good thing or a bad thing and what make a good remake?

Arcades were a staple of early video games and the main place where kids would go to play games in the 1980’s. Sure there were home consoles, like the Atari 2600, the ColecoVision and others but until the mid-1990’s arcades were a huge part of gaming culture. Out of these arcades came many classic games and fan favorites including Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Pong. These titles were beloved back then and we still look on them with fond memories. But should they stay just that? Many companies have tried to recapture the classic games and bring them to a new audience with mixed results. Should companies be trying to do this or should they leave well enough alone?
