Nintendo is trying to get ahead with the Wii U by releasing the console in 2012 before Sony and Microsoft release their next gen systems. Like the Dreamcast, the Wii U will straddle generations. The big question is will 3rd party developers stay with Nintendo once the other two systems come out? Will Nintendo have the support and robust online system that gamers crave? Will a touch screen controller be enough to make people interested in the system?

"Wii U by releasing the console in 2010" it is 2011 now.. so that is a mistake or just wrong. there is no release date released so even changing it to 2012 would be wrong when they have not said any date no game has even been made for it.

I think Nintendo have the potential to be in trouble. The Wii U is trying to take back a little bit of the hardcore market, though I still believe that the Wii has done too much bad in the eyes of the hardcore crowd that it will be hard to sway them. I can see many people being interested in Wii U but ultimately holding out for the new Xbox or PS4 which will more than likely be more powerful and feature filled.

Won't matter when they release it because other than the 3DS, I have never bought a nintendo console till years after release.Sony consoles are always my launch consoles.

Plus atm the Wii U looks really meh to me.When it comes to motion sensing in gaming, I only really like the basics like being able to look around the stages in DOA by moving the 3DS.Even the Move I rarely use.Because I like classic controls for my gaming.

My gripe with Nintendo is that they always seem to think they know best. Their company is run by some innovative, yet stubborn people. They only embrace trends when it originates from its own camp and that's just bad for business. They take a stance against something with just about every system they make... And they're always WRONG. In the case of the original Wii, it was online gaming and HD.

The Wii U is being pushed out so soon because it is a way for Nintendo to play catch-up. With the introduction of the Kinect and Move, Nintendo had to admit to themselves that the Wii had nothing left to tout at this point. They can no longer ride high on the novelty of motion controllers.

So, I think it's a smart move for them to release a new system at this point. But if the Wii U does not have a clear edge in its hardware capabilities over what's offered by current-gen competitors, then Nintendo is making the same mistake. What's to stop competitors from replicating the one gimmick you have going for your console? Nothing.
