Game Podunk’s blogger, Ordinary Gentleman reviews the introduction of 3DS when it first came out and what might have sparked the 3DS drastic price drop as months passed by. Read on for more details.

Starting August 12, Nintendo will drop the Nintendo 3DS’ retail price from $249.99 to $169.99 – an unprecedented drop in Nintendo’s history of pricing. What could have contributed to this drastic cut? I for one think it a result of shrewd business mixed with damage control.
When the 3DS was first announced, it was essentially the belle of the ball. The games like Kid Icarus, Metal Gear, and Star Fox were showcased – and such surprise titles like Street Fighter 4 truly showcased its potential power.

Desperate move.. The sales of the handheld are shit and I don't think a price drop will save it. Most people I know that have tried it do not like it and that tends to be the general consensus.. The only ones that do like it are those that have bought it and I sense a little bias in their judgement seeing how much it cost them.. The device is poor.

It's in between imo. With the Vita being at the price it is, and being clearly more powerful, they had to distance their device from it, in both price and head start.

Even so, they won't sell many 3DS consoles until they have games worth playing, and Ocarina of Time isn't going to be enough when you can play it on any of 3 other consoles.

that said, Nintendo is Nintendo, and once they start getting those addictive puzzle games going again, lookin at layton, they'll probably be alright.
