Nintendo's focus has seemingly shifted away from its tried-and-true "gameplay before hardware" mantra, and it might be backfiring. Poor sales led to price cuts and forecast slashes. Is Nintendo about to forfeit its handheld dominance?

The 3DS is a monumental failure for Nintendo. They essentially took a DSi beefed up the power a bit and then slapped 3D onto it, 3D which may I add is actually uncomfortable to view. If you combine that with a near none existent game release schedule and you have a platform no one wants..

I personally believe that this will be the first handheld Nintendo have released that will be beaten by it's competition. Playstation Vita has the games, it has the hardware and most importantly it has been designed around gameplay.. There are several ways you can play every game. Nintendo *bleep*ed up this time.

In what way? I have no problem viewing the 3D.

Technically when looking at the previous success of the PS2 and the fact the PS3 still hasn't turned a profit for Sony unlike the Wii and 360 it is a failure despite strong sales and games.

they were only losing money when it first came out and the Cell chip + blu ray was costing them more than they were selling for. now that stuff is much cheaper and they are making money on PS3s.

They are selling the PS3 for a profit but it has yet to make a return on investment for Sony. They lost millions when making the PS3 and usually in the case of Sony and Microsoft they make and sell the system at a loss in hopes that the software (games) will make up for it then a couple of years down the line they are able to sell the console for a profit and gain all they invested in the console and more, aka making a profit.

Sony has yet to receive a profit on the PS3, they invested way to much in it, and sold it at a great loss, they'll probably never get a profit on the PS3.

I definitely wouldn't claim the handheld a failure yet. Whatever happens I don't think it's going to be breaking sales records though.

People only see it as a failure because there isn't a good library of games. Give it time people. xD

I'm not even a 3DS owner and I don't think its a failure yet. I'm still interested in buying one even if I end up keeping my old DS.

Nearly every game console had a forgettable launch.

Nintendo DS had nothing, PSP had nothing, xbox 360 had nothing, PS3 had nothing (and also had the worst launch of all the 3 current gen systems yet that didn't prove to be a failure quality wise anyways), the wii was probably the only exception with zelda but that's all they had.
