DICE has stated that they have no desire to take the Battlefield franchise to an annual edition and that EA is not pushing them to. This blog post covers why I like that decision.

DICE has stated that they have no plans to annualize the Battlefield franchise and that they feel no pressure from publisher EA to do so. This is welcome news to many gamers who had feared the Battlefield franchise would go the route of Call of Duty and become an annual thing. This is a good and bad thing that could eventually kills some franchises and I am personally very happy that DICE and EA are not going down this route, here is why.

I totally agree with you james. It is indeed refreshing to see a developer refuse to follow the current trend to be able to preserve the fidelity and quality of each title.

Isn't Battlefield pretty much already annual..

I'm pretty sure that they have always released a Battlefield product every 1-2 years.

    2002 - Battlefield 1942
2003 - Battlefield 1942: The Road to Rome
2003 - Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons of WWII
    2004 - Battlefield Vietnam
    2005 - Battlefield 2
    2005 - Battlefield 2: Special Forces
    2005 - Battlefield 2: Modern Combat
    2006 - Battlefield 2: Euro Forces
    2006 - Battlefield 2: Armored Fury
    2006 - Battlefield 2142
    2007 - Battlefield 2142: Northern Strike
    2008 - Battlefield: Bad Company
    2009 - Battlefield Heroes
    2009 - Battlefield 1943
    2010 - Battlefield: Bad Company 2
    2010 - Battlefield: Bad Company 2: Vietnam
    2010 - Battlefield Online
    2011 - Battlefield Play4Free
    2011 - Battlefield 3

That is the complete time line of Battlefield releases.. It's about as milked as Call of Duty. Whether it's core games or expansions, they are still releasing products yearly to get our money.. Often times they are releasing products 2-3 times a year with the Battlefield name.

So yeah while Battlefield 3 might not get a sequel for 2-3 years. Battlefield 3 isn't the only game in the series.. Next year will more than likely be Battlefield: Bad Company 3. This series is annual they just change up the name from time to time to hide that.

PS. Yes.. There are 19 titles in that list and yes they were all released in a short 10 year period. This game series is beyond annual.

but at least they are higher quality than COD, so milked or not im not complaining. if youre milking a franchise that blows nuts already (COD) then its annoying.

I think they were referring to the numbered Battlefield games only but that's a good point they have a lot of different iterations of the game out there. Not sure if maybe the comments from DICE are hinted that they will stop that perhaps who knows?

Daweii add the dates of release and you got some great info there buddy. But yea i think they are pretty much releasing one every year.. i think that comment was less about BF3 and more talking trash on COD games and trying to say how theres are better and take longer to make. with the new free to play they do not have to release as many new games they can just add new builds and such. Daweii ou should put the makers of each of those games too they get around way more then COD. I personally think the comment was not really ture just talking trash at MW3. If cod wanted to they could just release the game 1 day later and it not be a year. the point they are making to me is lame and silly its all business and no benefit to the gamer.

DICE is not even in control of the game, when it is released who it is made by or anything like that. so for them to say that is just silly as they do not know what EA has planned. if dice will not do it EA will hire someone that will or as in EA style buy them out and tell them what to do lol.
