Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat are two of the biggest fighting game franchises in history but they have never had a crossover event. Why not and should they even try?

Recently Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono explained to gamers why we have yet to see a crossover event between the popular fighting game series Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter. Both of these franchises have been around for a long time and dominate the same part of the video game market. With recent additions to both of the gaming series that were well-received (Street Fighter 4 and Mortal Kombat 9) it seems like the right time to bring the two together. But why haven’t we seen these two come together and should they even try? Here are my thoughts.

cross over games are done when the publisher owns both development companies. Street Fighter is owned by capcom and MK is WB. it is not happening no matter how much you want it. wouldn't it be cool if i could play both ps3 and xbox 360 games on 1 system. lets be real about this. we could do wouldn't it be cool all day long. DC Universe is owned by DC Entertainment, Inc. which is owned by WB. Mortal Kombat is owned by WB. that is the reason there was a Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe. Pretty basic business stuff. you can dream all you want but be real.

using this logic, explain Street Fighter X Tekken.

Well the MK people and the Street Fighter people have been in talks before about doing a crossover so its not like it hasn't been considered. I agree that it is a huge leap to bring two series that aren't owned by the same people together but look at the comics, Marvel and DC have done crossovers before (Superman vs The Amazing Spider-Man for example) so it isn't impossible. Besides if you read what I wrote you'd know I actually thought it wasn't the best idea to bring the two together for other reasons

Shinobi_razor bingo.. using that logic you can pretty much know what fighters could cross over and which wont and you come up with like you said Street Fighter X Tekken which is happening. MK people and the Street Fighter people where not really in talks for a cross over how things are now they where in talks to sell MK to capcom! Marvel and DC did have a game however that's just like i was saying they are 1 company. They are owned by the same company, Marvel entertainment which is now owed by The Walt Disney Company. Superman vs The Amazing Spider-Man both are owned by the same company buddy. they started off not as the same company but over time bought out and merged but none the less when they released cross overs they where the same. James i did read what you said and i understand your points on the game it self i am just speaking to the business end of the games and cross overs. if they did do it, it would be the 1st like that and be pretty big deal. some people where talking about a cod halo cross over when it was not knew what deal bungie and activision where doing. however that was clearly wrong too because microsoft owns halo not. cross overs of video games are like cross overs on tv. they are done to boost ratings/sales and to push people to the other product. but you wont see a cross over from outside maker/network.
