Franchises the span multiple media is nothing new but there has been an increase in the number of video game series that are moving to other media. Is this a good thing or a bad thing and how can it best be used?

I just recently began reading some of the Mass Effect novels having heard that they were very good and that they would help fill in quite a bit of back story for the games. I began reading the first book in the series, Revelation, and was pleasantly surprised that my usual lack of interest in reading had disappeared and I was getting engrossed in the novel. But after I put the novel down for the night I began to think about how video games have spilled over into other media and how this is both a good and a bad thing. Here are my thoughts on cross-media distribution of content.

While i would not buy every book from a game maker i would not buy every game from a game maker. I think it is a good thing, many gamers dislike the change from story mode to MP mode. So many will love the flood of new books from video games. I think it is cool but just do not sell out sell quality goods and it's all good.
