How many times have you found yourself locked in a room with one of the toughest, meanest bad guys a game has to offer? Boss battles can either be the best, or the worst part of an entire game. What's up with that? And if a game HAS to have a boss battle, what can possibly be done to make them better?

When done right, boss battles are good, because they give us a sense of closure and a feeling that justice has been served. When done wrong, however, look out! There’s nothing worse than facing off against an overpowered boss who has more health points than you have ammo, especially when they have all the advantages — good cover, invulnerability, unlimited ammo.
