Over 65,000 Australians attempt suicide each year. Superficial notions of people can lead to their death, and Australia implores you, on this day, to ask those meaningful people in your life the simple question of "Are you okay?"

I have never seriously considered suicide, though I’ve reached some pretty low lows. However, there are more than 65 000 people a year in Australia alone who have attempted suicide, many succeeding and leaving devastated families behind.

The World Health Organisation states that suicide is among the top 20 leading causes of death globally for all ages. Every year, nearly one million people die from suicide.

The truth is that all people need relationships and more than that, they need encouragement and caring listeners.

Today is R U OK? Day, and I encourage all of you to take a moment and consider the following information: you may save a life.

This is something I've never really thought about but rings true. I've lived a pretty comfortable and worry free life for the 18 years I've been on this planet and I'm luckier than most, but not once have I stopped to question the effects games can have by becoming more 'real' and this is a side to hthat question I'd never even thought about. It's amazing when you think about it, how much gaming can affect our lives, our culture and even our mindset. Gaming has caused a major cultural shify over the last 15 years or so and it's become a force more and more overt, it's scary. I don't know anyone irl that is a 'gamer' so to speak, but I think after reading this I know what to look out for when talking to other gamers both online and irl... it's helped so say the least.

I like the intention of the good will but most games are online and the ones people use to "escape reality" are online games where A LOT of interaction with other people exists (WoW). I cannot agree that more depressed people are on video games. Especially with all the trash talking I hear. It's like everyone I play with has such a big ego they don't have room for shame. Unless it's a front, but I doubt it. And I play with at least 4 people online irl, and only one is an introvert, but he's still out going to the point where he takes US to go paintballing. still, it won't hurt to ask right :3

I wonder how many of those 'trash talking big ego' types would be confident in REAL life though...and sober! A lot of people who SEEM confident and life's okay aren't okay at all. They put up a front.
