Battlefield 3 PS3 Beta: Buggy, Ugly, Still Fun as Hell

GameJudgment shares the impressions of the Battlefield 3 beta on Sony's PlaySation 3. They note that the game is suffering from numerous technical and visual problems, but still manages to be a quality and fun experience.

Last night I spent quality time with Dice’s upcoming mega-shooter Battlefield 3 on my PlayStation 3. As a fan of the Battlefield series and a dedicated Battlefield: Bad Company 2 player, I was thrilled to see what Dice had done with the series and what technical marvels had been achieved. What I found was not what I expected.

    if its "ugly" at all, its because its not on PC. that should be obvious. and the point of betas are to give the devs an idea of what needs ironing out.

        they can always fix the most important bugs within the next week or 2 right before it goes gold, then fix the rest with patches when it releases.

    I've noticed a lot of odd screen jitter, and blips of blank pink screen occurring.

      the PS3 version or PC? occasionally when i play BC2 i get moments where the screen goes black/flickers on and off, i hope that doesnt continue in this one.

        Hate to say it, but it looks that way. At some points it was unplayable the way the screen was blipping and flickering.

          after having spent time in the beta, i didnt get any flickering issues, just the usual glitches that everyone seems to be getting. a lot of that seems like lag to me though.

          I also had the flickering issue.

          At some points, a flash of white would cover the entire screen a few times a second for over 30 seconds at a time. It was quite annoying.

          For the most part though, it wasn't too bad. Out of the 5 matches I've played, it was only really a severe problem for the larger part of one match, and it occasionally happened here and there in three other matches. I had one match that was perfectly fine from what I noticed.

          ive had a bit better performance after installing the beta Nvidia driver which is said to be optimized for BF3. im leery about using a beta video driver, but it seems to be doing ok. the game doesnt randomly crash mid-match much now, but it does sometimes crash right before the match is over.

    Been playing the Beta, actually tempted to cancel my pre-order. No Beta should be this *bleep*ed up so close to release.

      I hear ya Province. Even if it is older code....it shouldn't have this many issues close to launch.
