The Internet has ruined the sense of discovery that used to come from buying a brand new game - the average gamer knows almost everything about any game before its release. That childhood sense of wonder and excitement no longer exists in today's modern gaming world.

That's why GameJudgment's Patrick O'Rourke has read and watched almost nothing about Skyrim.

"When Skyrim was first announced, I didn’t search for any information about the game at all. In fact, I’ve actively avoided reading anything about Bethesda’s latest epic. When I finally play Skyrim for the first time, I want the game to retain the sense of wonder and excitement that I used to experienced through video games as a child."

The reason most people know half the things about the games before they buy them is because games cost nearly $70 nowadays and they want to make sure they're getting what they want, and that it's of the quality they want.

    Unless it's Modern Warfare *trollface*

wouldnt it be safe to say the price of games has increased with inflation? back in the SNES days when a game was what, $30 new, wouldnt that work out to the same today?

I don't see how $30 and $70 can be regarded as the same.

I certainly know that buying a game was not the financial commitment that it is for me now.

you know what inflation is right?

back in the SNES days when the average minimum wage in the US was like $3 or $4 an hour, when now its about $8, $30 would be about the same then as $60 - $70 is now.

but i could be wrong. back then i was too young to have a job and obviously didnt buy games myself, parents or whatever did. assuming its the same way with you, we just notice it now because we have to buy our own games.

I try to keep that same sense of mystery of a game that I want as well.

As tempting as it is getting a head start on the information, I do a great job to restrain myself from doing so.
