There's no problem with looking down on how combat was being played back then, but when trash talking comes into play about it, that is just going too far. Players should look at the old concepts as a sign of respect and they'll know how far that the RPG industry has come.

I have absolutely no problem with a turn-based combat system or any other old-school combat system. Like the article said, those were what MADE RPGs and I will continue to respect the old ways of RPGs.

I respect the old ways of RPGs, but I also disagree completely with the author's opinions of FFXIII and its battle system, which seems to be part of the main point of the article. I think FFXIII did a great job of speeding up the battling process, including all of my favorite parts of combat while reducing the emphasis on grinding.

The author himself says that maybe he's just yearning for something more contemporary...play FF: 4 Heroes of Light (lmao) or one of the countless RPG re-makes if you want something contemporary, I'm down for innovating the genre, personally.
