Licensed games have had a really hard time being very good in the past but a string of good games leads us to believe that maybe a change is coming real soon.

Games based on movies rarely do well with either fans or critics. The movie license seems to make game development extremely difficult for many reasons and recent games based on popular movie characters that weren’t tied to a movie (the Batman: Arkham franchise for example) have set a new precedent for games based on popular characters from other media. Why do games turn out better when they aren’t tied to a movie and what can the industry learn from past successes?
