at some point yeah, all games will be downloaded. i just hope its not for a while, as i prefer physical copies of games. im not averse to Steam games but if i have the choice ill go physical.

Gamestop will fight it as long as possible though. even though they have digital distribution stuff now like Impulse, physical games bring customers into their stores. without them there would be no more brick and mortar Gamestops, they would be fully digital and only have warehouses to ship accessories and non game items.

If games ever go 100% digital I will go 100% non-gamer

Maybe once everybody as access to super fast internet connections and once some people get over their phobia of online shopping, then maybe we'll see a digital only age.

The real problem with all-digital gaming is that in the occurence that something like a RRoD or YLoD occurs, not only do you lose all of your saves, but you lose all your games as well.

The way it is now, at least if I get a YLoD, I still have all the game discs I purchased. If it were all-digital, I'd have sweet sh*t-all.

Actually, if you've downloaded the game, or any content, from the PSN store (and I'm assuming that's practically the only way to digitally get a game on the PS3), you should be able to keep it forever unless I'm mistaken.

For instance, if you downloaded Batman: Arkham City DLC, you can delete it and download it again without paying again. Usually, after you buy/download something, it's marked by a red shopping bag indicating that you've bought it already; meaning you now own it forever.

So the YLoD actually wouldn't be a problem in that respect. Though it would still be quite annoying to have to download entire games all over again.

Do they not have a limit on how many times you can redownload a purchased item? I think it's a 5-time limit. If you've already hit the limit, and your console dies, you can't redownload it again. With a disc, you can put it in the console as many times as you like.

The limit is only for differen't PS3 systems, providing you only download the copy of a game to the system you originally downloaded it for (and not for your mates too by logging on to his console under your ID) then the download limit is unlimited.

Ah. I can't believe that in the four and a half years I owned my PS3, I never figured that out... -_-
