A brief history of video game legislation, concluding with Electronic Software Association v. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The bad news - politicians will continue to use video games as a scapegoat and cheap pandering tactic. The good news - they haven't even gotten close to restricting the sale of games to minors.

Of course, what could be wrong with censoring video games? As spokesperson for New York State Senator Leland Yee, the sponsor of the latest video game censorship law, points out, “we prohibit children from smoking…we regulate driver’s licenses. We prohibit alcohol. We prohibit lots of things from children, and we think it’s logical that kids should not be able to purchase these games on their own.”

Oh of COURSE! It's so obvious, we prohibit a lot of things for peoples SAFETY! Can someone point out how stopping minors from buying games increases safety?

They have tried this so many times. Why not just give up? It s never gonna happen. Just because you say a minor can't buy it, it is not going to help. They will get an older sibling to buy the game or maybe there parents. That is how you get around stuff that requires IDs'.

Yeah, they have tried that many times and yet they still don't want to give up.

And I wonder how stopping minors from buying games increases safety? A free cookie for someone who tells me~

I think (atleast I hope) they were talking about restricting games to kids who do not meet the age requirements, which does make sense.

Just a few more years...I just keep saying that to myself because in a few years everyone in congress will have been born in the gaming age. Most old people are afraid of new things anyway.

Soon the revolution will be at hand. Rise up game players, take to the streets and cast down those who would defy one of the greatest forms of entertainment of all time
