It's extremely close to release, and with many games that use the eye already slated (such as The Eye of Judgment) it's great that we can get more information directly from the creators via the Playstation Blog.

Let's start with the differences between the Playstation Eye and the EyeToy Camera direct from the blog (at the source). Be sure to check the source for indepth descriptions:

  • Playstation Eye Engineered to perform well in Low-light conditions
  • 2-Setting Zoom Lens (For Normal & Wide Angles) with Fixed Focus
  • At 64x480 it runs at 60fps, at 320x240 it runs at 120fps
  • Built in 4-microphone array (no need for even an headset with it's Mic)
  • Filters out background noise
  • Twice the frame rate than most standard camera's
  • Free Content and Fun Activities available to Eye users via the PSN
These are only some of the perks, visit the source for a more indepth analysis and list of benefits of the Playstation Eye.

Lastly, a great value-add you may not all know about is the EyeCreate Software. This will be available for FREE download on the PlayStation Store (yes! free! come get it!) and allows you to save, edit and share your PlayStation Eye videos, photos and audio clips - all through your PS3.

These cameras seem pretty gimmicky. I've yet to get one, or even feel the need or urge to get one. I like the microphone attachment though. Could be interesting for the games that will come out. Until someone else in the dorms gets it and sings at the top of their lungs off pitch next door or something. -_-

I'm getting it with Eye of Judgement (Oct 23rd release date)...

Sad thing is, I might not have my PS3 when that happens (sending it in for repairs in a week or so)...
