Yes you read that right. The Wii costs over $1000 in Brazil and the Playstation 3 costs a whooping $1.818.82. Now that's a large amount of money to be paying on a gaming console if you live in Brazil and your minimum wage is only at $380. The games cost $300-$400 reais, which is probably at 200 American Dollars.

What is the solution to this whole mess? Going into piracy and that's what the people do in Brazil, plus Brazil doesn't have many strict rules about piracy.

What does everyone think? UK'ers should think positive from now on :).

It was no secret even before the popular game console was released that its retail price in Brazil would be, well, prohibitive.

a much better quote from the source is
    quote
Brazil applies a. 60 percent flat import tax on most manufactured retail goods
I'm no expert but I'd expect brazil to have the same type of laws about piracy as other countries, they must might have the ability to crack down on it. If the government does have that 60% tax you can be sure they don't want rampant piracy going on

O: That's insane prices. If they're the same as the US or something, then that's insanely expensive.

    Look if 400 Brazilian dollars roughly equals 200 US Dollars, a Wii = 500USD, and a PS3 = 900USD.

That's roughly the same price as the UK, it's just a little higher.

Well its largely because of Inflation there and state tax or whatever. But still i feel sorry for the Brazilians. No one should be paying that much for those systems.
