  Honestly, from the buzz I've been hearing on the internets, out of the two, only COD4 has a shot at GOTY. From off the top of my head, the games circling around GOTY contention are Super Mario Galaxy, Orange Box, Mass Effect and COD4.

  I agree, Akira, although most of them you mentioned are shooters xD Halo 3 is big, but my money goes to CoD4. It's more appealing to me, the weaponry, balanced multiplayer, etc.. Not saying that Halo 3 doesn't have those qualities, it just doesn't appeal to me as much.

    Only the two of them are Storm, Call of Duty 4 and Orange Box. They are definitely all contenders for title of the year, alongside Assassin's Creed. Orange Box is a fantastic compilation and is especially notable for its inclusion of Portal. Mass Effect looks to be a groundbreaking RPG, just what the Xbox 360 is missing, and Super Mario Galaxy is without a doubt the best game on the Wii to date. That's not to say that Halo 3 is without its strong points, I'd love to see many of its features carried over to different games.

  I picked up CoD4 and zomg multiplayer is so addicting. I played about 2hrs and within that time all the maps were different. Not to mention you can unlock and customize yourself with attributes and different weapon setups. I'd have to put my vote down for CoD4.

  Well I wouldn't say Halo 3 'cos probably the majority of people who buy it are getting it for the online and they probably only play through the story once or twice, but with CoD4 you're playing the campaign and online.

  Halo dissappointed me greatly. I would have thought after the initial skill differences that the multiplayer would become more balanced but over a month later you still always get thrown into games with people 2, 3 or sometimes 4 ranks higher than you and sometimes everyone has about 6 or 7 more skill than me in that area. Not to mention the actual gameplay elements aren't very balances. Meleeing is the main issue and the game is all great on paper but something just doesn't do it for me.
  
  
  Got COD4 today and I love it. It's certainly far better in my opinion than Halo. I mean I love Halo's story, I think it's much more amazing than people make out but the multiplayer doesn't excuse it. I haven't even played the multiplayer of CoD yet and since many people say it's the strongest area in the game I can't wait.

  Both these games get so much credit, and I'm sure they're great (yet to play full version of either), however, I think great online games like R6 Vegas often get over-looked.

  COD4 its a no brainer. Halo 3 from what i heard disappointed people in many area's. But all i been hearing about this is full praise. just imagine the game in 1080i or 1080p

  COD4 FTW. Halo 3 is only getting candidacy because, well, it's Halo. It doesn't matter if it sucked, it's on GOTY anyway.

  More games are coming out this year, assassins creed should have this tital.
  
  COD4 doesn't offer anything new, besides better graphics from the last game.
  
  Halo's multiplayer is better no doubt, COD4's single player is better.

  wtf are you smoking? cod4's multiplayer spits on halo3's hands down...its called fun...FUN!!..remember what that is? not endless mindless grinding for an unobtainable skill level but actually enjoying the game...FUN!
