Eurogamer: PS3 vs Xbox 360 round 5

The two consoles of the year go head to head again, being compared by the consoles output and graphical power. Which of the two consoles will be victorious? They take a look at these games on both consoles.

  • Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix
  • Colin Mcrae: DiRT
  • Fatastic four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

Once more Eurogamer returns to the front line trenches of the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 console war with the latest in our continuing series of cross-platform confrontations. This time the coverage is bigger and better than ever before, featuring more games, more comparison shot galleries, and more detail on the behind-the-scenes technical trickery employed.

As per usual, each game's video output is captured digitally and losslessly from the HDMI ports of the Xbox 360 Elite and PlayStation 3 respectively, both set to full range RGB output, with every last byte of video information being ingested at full 24-bit precision by a Digital Foundry HD capture station. Equivalent shots from both versions of each game are then extracted for your critical pleasure, both at 720p and if the PS3 version supports it, 1080p.

    Either my eyesight's bad or I didn't notice any differences in most of those games (most of which suck, btw).

    Thats crazy to hear "if the PS3 supports it, 1080p." Wasn't the PS3 supposed to be the one pushing the 'true HD' movement?

      The PS3 supports 1080p, he's talking about whether or not the games support 1080p. It's ultimately up to the developers.

        I know that. There just has been many games that don't support 1080p, even in cases where the same game on 360 does.

    This just goes to show you that when someone actually spends time optimizing for the PS3 the results can be better for it.

    Exactly.....not a single one of those games would persuade me to buy either the Xbox or PS3. I own a PS3 for other games.

    Because they are all multiplatform games and if this is round five there probably running short on games

    Well soon the PS3 is going to have games like Uncharted, MGS4, Killzone 2, Final Fantasy XIII that are just going to be visually fantastic and there are going to be no comparisons on the 360.

    The PS3's line up is starting to really get good now. Heavenly Sword and Warhawk both look visually splendorous in their own right already.

      I agree, i have Heavenly Sword and its awesome. I have yet to get Warhawk but i heard its really good. And the other games you listed is going to be killer.

    I think both consoles have the some graphic but the PS3 graphic is darker

      Darker? Darker how exactly? Are you saying the graphics for the PS3 is bad.

    VF5 - at first glance, the 360 looks better, but if you look at the character you cann see how the 360's version, makes his hand look like plastic. PS3 is also a little more clear. winner: PS3 by a tiny spec.

    Skate = tie.

    Transformers: both systems should be ashamed of themselves.

    POTC: people look better on 360, environment looks better on PS3.

    Harry potter's gay.

    DiRT: PS3 (just look at the grass etc)

    Fantastic four: almost the same, can't really tell.

    S rally: The Water looks better on 360, but might be because of the sun reflecting different so it's hard to judge. Grass looks like it's better on PS3 otherwise it's almost the same.

    FIFA: hard for me to tell, the background looks better for 360, but the people up close look better on PS3. I guess 360 wins this one.

    it's pretty much the same, the PS3 can do much better and it's sad they aren't using their power.
