Japanese blogger, Julie posts on her experience with a Fukubukuro at Super Potato. Now, you may be asking what is Fukubukuro. To sum it up, it's a mystery grab bag, or, lucky pick. In Japan, retailers just pack bags full of junk they want to get rid of and sell it for a low price. What's in the bag is unknown to the consumer till they buy and open it.

Julie bought a Fukubukuro for only 1,000¥ which is aproximately $9 USD. Inside she found to her surprise over 70 games ranging from:
NES - 35
SNES - 4
GameGear - 19
SegaSaturn - 3
PC - 2
Playstation - 4
Gameboy - 1
DreamCast - 1
Virtual Boy - 1

and then some. What a score for under $10. Fukubukuro!

Game Gear games used to be quite expensive if I remember correctly, great deal indeed...but now the question remains: Does she have the necessary console/handhelds to play these games?

    Wow, Virtual Boy.

Exactly what I want to know >_> She MIGHT have a Dreamcast (Japan still loves it, and until recently, games have still been developed for it)...MAYBE a SNES, but I doubt she has a Gamegear, Sega Saturn, or Virtual Boy...

If she has a PS2, she can play the PS1 games...She should have a PC that is capable of playing the games (likely old clearance games that even a 5 year old PC could play)...

ZOMG...Didn't even mention the 35NES games she got? Now she needs to FIND a NES (unless she actually has one 0_o)

oops, missed the NES. My bad, post edited to add in the 35 NES

They list in icon form what icons the person owns (they can pick) so from what I see she has: DS, PSP, PS2, SNES, Saturn, PC, ??, Wii. Unsure of what the 2nd to last console is, though.

For the number of games for each system:
What you have for PC is actually PCE: the PC Engine, which was the TurboGrafx in the West.
MD is the Sega Mega Drive, which is the Genesis in the US.
The one in all Japanese is the Famicom Disk System.

          Across the top:
DS, PSP, PS2, Famicom, Saturn, PC, PC Engine, Wii

*Wants to go to Japan even more*

She can either make a nice profit selling all of those games online or have a ton of old school fun with the games if she has the consoles/handhelds. Heh I feel like one of the only people in the UK with a Game Gear.. still got it lying about somewhere.

Ever heard of a "lucky dip"?

Fukubukuro bags always have things that are worth more than what the customer pays for them. That's why they sell so well. You're pretty-much bound to get something that you would want, or something that somebody else would want.

      - - -

I wish that stores had similar deals like that over here. Instead of just throwing away clothes, electronics, items, etc. that are old or last season, put them in a "mystery bag" and sell them for a cheap price.
