It's a question that many have asked themselves, how long will the internal memory of the Wii last? Unlike the PS3 which has a minimum of 20GB internal memory for the OS/Game Saves/Downloads and other items, the Wii only has 512MB, which is used for all the downloads and saves. With over 200 games currently availalbe on the Virtual Console, this seriously limits the number of games you can store on the internal memory itself.
Though you can always delete and redownload (onto the machine you origionally purchased it to with), or transfer it to an SD card, to play the game, you will always have to put it back into the internal memory of the Wii to play the game.
VC Reviews takes a look at the problem, and the possible solutions that Nintendo could offer in the future.
Since the release of the Wii many tech-savvy fans have pointed out that the two USB ports present on the console could open up a whole world of opportunities; one recent firmware update granted the ability to use USB keyboards on the machine, for example. Surely it would be a simple thing for Nintendo to allow Wii owners to hook up external hard drives for storage?

I still have some space left, but it is eventually going to run out. There is no reason to limit the internal memory like this when a firmware update is all the Wii needs. Nintendo keeps ignoring this, and it's getting ridiculous.
I picked up a 2 gig SD card for 20 bucks, haven't had a problem since.
