As previously reported, Devil May Cry 4 takes around 20minutes to download and installs 5GB to the Harddrive. Well the benefits of it seem only to be load times right? Well not exactly, yes that is a benefit, however another benefit is the fact that the installation of the game also means less noise and limits wear and tear on your Blu-Ray drive.

The article at the source delves into the nitty-gritty parts of installing to your harddrive like the PS3, vs running from the disc like the XBOX360.

still id rather not have to wait 20 mins and give up 5 gigs.

For games that don't have any add-on content, you can always delete the 5GB of data once you've finished playing with the game, and you don't think you'll play it for a while

Oh great so i'll have to wait another 20 min everytime i want to play a damn game? yeah no thanks

I agree with Slumpy. I honestly don't see the big difference compared to the 360. They're almost the same and the 360 doesn't even need an extra 5GB for storage. >_

Firstly, have you played both versions of the game? Secondly, have you heard the noise the consoles make whilst both games are being played? Thirdly have you read the article ?

Whilst the hard drive space is a minor annoyance, the benefits that it gives to the longevity of your consoles, in my opinion far outweigh anything else.

I still don't know why anyone would complain.

I'll complain all I want to, and you can't stop me!

My problem is why does it need to be 5 GB? Again, I'm picky when it comes to programs eating away my hard drive. Sure I can simply get an external HDD, but it still bothers me nonetheless. With 5 GB, I can install...about 3 games or so with a computer.

I agree with Krunal and iLLmatic here, why should anyone complain. Sure it may look big but it benefits the player more so than not. And if this seems to be the case where it limits the wear and tear of my Blu-ray drive then i don't care how much it uses if its helps my PS3 system then im going to be glad and accepted this.

Hell Kobyasha told MS if they could do this and they said no, no. Why, if this would have benefited 360 as well why decline. I think MS made a huge mistake, by no adding a HD standard and not allowing them to do this.

Im sorry but this could ultimately hurt your 360 system.

Thing is finalblade98, it's mandatory. If it was optional it wouldn't be half as bad!

        Final Blade Feb 14, 08
Thats the thing though its mandatory cause it helps your system. The PS3 is alot of money, don't you want your system being in tip top shape for years. I would. And why not allow the 5 GB thing to lessen the wear and tear of your Blu-ray drive and better the loading times. Its as if MS didn't want their version to be better, while PS3 had everything they wanted and did it mandatory. Which im sure is the reason why the sales are beating the 360 version by 5-1 in japan and pal regions. I wonder what the U.S numbers will be like.

Its not like it was that long. It had a story while loading and it would keep you entertained. Hell Games nowadays are becoming like a PC where installing makes the gaming experience that much better for us. Its seems a great move from Capcom.
        I agree with Existenz 100%

Your sure thats the reason the 360 is getting beaten? Come on, don't tell me you forget the 360 has been out for a very long while compared to the PS3 and it is only really booming now cause it's not so freaking dear (although it still is in my town which is a bitch) and is getting a good game library. Gotta consider other factors. Oh and Microsoft does care, longer warranty and free repairs. Come on...

          Final Blade Feb 14, 08
It seems its the only reason why the PS3 version is owning the 360 Version. Cause like you said, it should be even or Better to the 360 yet its not.
Also not the system, im talking about the 360 Version of DMC4.

Since when has "wear and tear" ever been a problem in game consoles? I think that's a pretty poor reason.

      Seeker X Feb 13, 08
Agreed, this issue was never really brought up until now, and if it WAS that huge of a deal, I'm pretty sure there would've been more measures to prevent that kind of thing. So no, I still don't find a DMC game dumping a huge load in the Hard Drive reasonable when games like Oblivion are almost just as big.

        Storm* Feb 13, 08
But Oblivion's a completely different [and much longer] game, and you will likely spend more hours on the RPG.

          Seeker X Feb 13, 08
That's my point. Oblivion is like 4 Gigs huge, why does Devil May Cry 4 (a game MUCH MUCH shorter and linear) have a much bigger data cache than Oblivion?

          Storm* Feb 14, 08
Oh I see, sorry misread there. Yeah you're right, it seriously makes no sense to me. I guess this is needed for faster load times to match with the 360.

      Existenz Feb 13, 08
Its a pretty big issue i mean towards the end of a well used consoles life on the market, 6 years if you got it on day one you will notice things that run slower, disc drives opening without a glide, it getting louder etc... It all builds up, all this may do is prolong the life of a console that cost people a lot of money.

It's not our fault blu-ray can't load data as fast as dvd and need you to waste your space with an install

      Red 9* Feb 14, 08
That was pure stupidity and fanboyism at its finest.

If it could DL the data faster than DMC4 did, no worries. Oblivion DL's it while you play, and it's just as large (with SI addon).

Introducing the latest in technology and new disc formats and THEN needing to DOWNLOAD a whole 5G of stuff?

That's terrible. It seems like a failure in every sense.

      Red 9* Feb 14, 08
Yes, because all PS3 games are failures, and so is the PS3.[/sarcasm]
