With the Game Developers Conference (GDC) currently taking place, a journalist for the BBC took note of a 360 kiosk that had what a lot of 360 owners have experienced; the fearful RRoD.

This doesn't make Microsoft look any better with the whole RRoD perspective on their console. The writer of the article even states "embarrassing for the company that its own stock of demo machines are still susceptible to the problem."

video after the jump.

Not a good start for Microsoft at the GDC...if they wish to redeem themselves, have Epic Games at least announce Gears 2 release this year.

Haha. Literally laughed out sound at the end. Though it isn't exactly 'news' as such.

I knew this would happen sooner or later. I always thought it would be hilarious but also cringe-worthy if a show machine got the RROD.

I initially thought that was just because the A/V cable wasn't plugged in properly, but that would be all four lights, right?

That's just funny that it would happen at GDC.

    LOL!
    How embarrassing indeed.
    They really should fix this.
If it can be fixed that is....

Microsoft just got owned by their own console. EPIC.

Epic? Nah. Epic is the journey you must forgo at Blockbuster to find one of the five or so copies of that PS3 game that's worth, at least, a rent.

      Lord of the rings shit.

I'll give you a better one, like finding a 360 that ain't faulty. Hard enough as it is, but I'm sure your never-dying loyalty can survive that.

I've found five already, so I've experienced a 0% failure rate.

          Nice try, though.

To be fair, the console's being suffocated.

I'm sure the PS3 and Wii would not cope too well in such a claustrophobic environment.

The PS3 has undergone extensive tests and can last 48 hours on in a sauna, i mean seriously a kiosk is neer going to reach that heat... The Wii isn't powerful enough to overheat and fail to be honest.

Wow i could have sworn most of the issues has been fixed. I wonder if that model was an old version. Cause if it was a new one, its not going to help them this year if its persisting.

no its cause its not in a normal enviroment e.g a well ventalated room, in a house.^^

But thats the only one that crapped out, while the others were in the same environment didn't. Its either an old console, or that system, coincidentally just failed.

I don't agree that the case is the problem. Our Target had their 360 in the same case for months and that 360 never got the RRoD.

So from that, we're able to conclude that keeping the machine in a closed box is good for it?

I dunno, though... I find Peter Moore hitting the guide button while playing Rockband at E3 and then "resigning" a month or so later much, much more entertaining.

For once i agree with you. It does seem entertaining, and interesting.

Let's see... tight, plastic, non-ventilated box, with more than likely old model inside.

      Avalith Feb 19, 08
Something tells me that Microsoft wouldn't be dumb enough to put an old model inside there, especially not with the higher rate of a console going to Xbox 360 heaven by way of the Red Ring of Death.

They've done stupid things before. This wouldn't be any different.

Stupid things like designing a really shitty heatsink for a component that gets way too *bleep*ing hot for said headsink and burning it's way out of the motherboard? Yes, quite stupid.

How would you know its non-ventilated?

Just go into a store that has a gaming kiosk in, those kiosks are the same everywhere maybe slightly bigger at a gaming event, you may notice they have a few small holes in the SIDE heat rises, so its just going up and returning right back to the console, the PS3 kiosks are the exact same but you don't see them breaking.

I lol'd at the kotaku heading for this:
Microsoft Lights up GDC with Red Ring of Death.

    Bale Fire Feb 19, 08
Well the failure rate is still roughly 15% so despite what people think the Red Ring of Death is still out there. But then it is in a enclosed space so that probably elevates the risk
