Super Smash Bros. producer Masahiro Sakurai was recently stating that he wants new characters from Nintendo. After learning about Super Mario Sluggers, Eoco from OpinionDebug has elected to agree with Sakurai, but ask for more creativity from Nintendo in general. Their position? Mario's been in over 200 games already; Nintendo should give someone else a chance and start getting more creative with future game titles.
I have just found out that the previously announced Super Mario Stadium Baseball has been renamed to the rather tantalizing title of Mario Super Sluggers. This is a new Wii game set to arrive in the US later this year and is the sequel to Mario Superstar Baseball. Wow Nintendo, youve really surprised me, you just cant miss another money spinning opportunity.

Moar Luigi and new series.
Now, I'll say it again, Nintendo needs some new franchises, please let one have an African American as a Main Character, that would be new and unexpected.
What they really need is to forget about Mario Bros. all together for a while and focus on new franchises. If they can get two or three new franchises going successfully for a while, then maybe they can slip a Mario game in here or there, but it gets old whenever you see a coming soon list for the Wii that says "Mario, Mario, Mario, Random third party game, Mario, Mario, Wii _____, Mario, Mario, Pokemon, Mario" all the time.
New Franchise, New Franchise, New Franchise, New Franchise, Random 3rd Party Game, Starfox, F-Zero, Random 3rd Party Game, Earthbound.

Damn, they seriously help now. I thought Strikers was bad enough. But continuing the "Mario appears in a sport now!" trend is... horrifying.
I want Mario to be given his own Mario-y titles as much as before, while at the same time introducing characters to fill in the Strikers and Sluggers sections. Seriously, we love you and all, but gtfo Mario. You've been in the spotlight for too long, and the actual bulb for the spotlight had to be replaced three times while you stood there - it's been that long.
