As you may have noticed, the price of the Nintendo Wii has stayed the same for ages and hasn't shifted one bit. The system has gotten easier and cheaper to make, so they're making an even better profit from each system sold. With not much heading in the Wii's direction, but more heading in the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3's direction(Grand Theft Auto IV just released), Nintendo needs to do something about it. Both rivals have had their prices cut and now it is time for them to do the same.

It has been at the same price for a long time now, during which it has become a lot cheaper to make. Especially with the volumes they are churning out. And they were making a profit in every unit from the beginning. So there is plenty of room to drop the price.
They are ramping up production to 25 million units a year. Initially these will just meet the backlog of demand but once that is done they will need to use the price mechanism to shift them.

You heard it here: Nintendo Wii available at dollar store by 2010! [sarcasm]

Good to see they're trying to do something. Even if it is a little pointless; Wii is cheap enough.

Good cause i have a dollar to spare to get it

But i seriously doubt they will lower the price. What they need is better games, plain and simple. And by this i mean New IP's not some rehash of Mario or Metroid prime.

Don't be silly, the Wii has had a great selection of games so far, and I for one am glad that I got the console on the day of release to enjoy them.

With the recent release of games like GTA IV for the 360/PS3, the Wii has been put a bit in the shadow recently, so it would be nice to counter this with a price cut. Even so, they don't need to do anything dramatic, it's cheap enough. I can't see the cut happening until Christmas though..

Not enough for me to want to get a Wii. I only care about 1 game so far and that Brawl. Anything else is just not worth it for me.

The price will drop once sales drop. Fairly simple concept.

It's not that simple like stuff in a grocery store.

Anyway, I guess the Wii is cheap enough at the moment.

Yes... yes it is. The Wii is STILL a decently hard item to get a hold of, places are still selling them out within a week of shipping.

Why lower the price on something that is high demand? The PS3 and 360 NEEDED it as they weren't moving as many units as they wanted, for the time being. Hell, if they did a price RAISE a year ago it STILL would have sold out every moment it was in.

This is not a grocery store though, its the video game market. They work diiferently.

I expect it to drop around Christmas if it does drop. Maybe the best time for good business at that point in time. Everyone always wants a Wii for Christmas. Well not everyone.

I head on Pulse (sky channel 208) that they aren't planning on a price-cut anytime soon.

InnerDemon's onto something. The Wii definitely doesn't need a price cut, but if they do drop about $25-$50, I see it happening for X-Mas time.

      it wont

they know it will sell out in Christmas without the price drop.

All they need to do is get a new franchise that turns into a great game onto the system, although it is hard to make a new and successful on, it could be worthwhile

      Price cut= not logical
Supply and demand...supply and demand people

Exactly my point. They need new franchises and stop rehashing Mario and Metroid prime games. Its annoying as hell.

It depends on your wording and how well you explain your thoughts

They've cut the price of the DS though, haven't they? And that's almost always selling well.

Hmm, seemed like you were talking for the company as if you worked there to me, slumpy. That's probably how other people took it and is why they thumbed you down.

No, Im just stating the obvious, Why would they want to sell it at a lower price when they know it will sell out at the current price.
