Fatal Frame 4 will soon grace its presence on the Wii. In the meantime we take a look at some of the memorable moments in Fatal Frame. Jumps, bumps and atmosphere. Fatal Frame has it all.

Meeting Yoshino and the Priestess

Meeting the antagonist in a Fatal Frame game is always a memorable moment. The main character Rei is trapped in the spooky Manor of Sleep, a corrupt and haunting world that appears only in her nightmares. So it is a surprise for both the player and Rei when she stumbles across a woman named Yoshino who appears to be trapped in the Manor as well. But there is no time to ask questions as the game's antagonist Reika also appears to spread a 'tattoo' curse onto both Yoshino and Rei.

Sae Chase

FF2 had the player searching for hours upon hours in a bid to find proagonist Mio's sister, Mayu. Every movement sighted could either be a spirit lunging out to attack Mio or a clue pointing to Mayu's whereabouts. As a result of this players were constantly on their toes.
It was a truly memorable moment watching the first Chapter 7 cutscene begin as Mio walked down a dark and narrow pathway before turning to hear a small voice say "Why are you leaving me again?". The player breathed a sigh of relief assuming that Mayu, who always feared being left behind, had at last been found.
That relief soon turned to shock when it was revealed that the voice belonged to insane antagonist Sae (who enjoyed mimicking Mayu to torture Mio) before she burst into manical laughter as she ran towards Mio with her arms outstretched, her kimono drenched in blood. A frightening scene indeed!

Entering the Lost Village. Mayu's vision

The first cutscene in FF2 is a frightening and memorable one. Upon entering the Lost Village Mio and Mayu are tormented by visions of previous visitors who stumbled across the haunted houses.

Needle Woman Shower Scene

Here we are at number 1!
In FF3 Rei's house was a safe zone. Free from ghosts and hauntings, the player was free to roam Rei's house without fear of being attacked.
During the hours that Rei was safe at home she spent a lot of time contemplating her unfortunate situation whilst in the shower. So it was a shock when the Needle Woman ghost attacked Rei while she was in her apparent safe zone.

I really want to watch these videos, as I've always had an interest in the Fatal Frame series, but within the first 5 minutes of playing the first game, I turned it off, drove back to the mall, and traded it in for Mister Mosquito.

Way too scary for me! Zombies I can handle, even psychotic bums, but not ghosts!

      Are you serious?!!
Ghosts are like pebbles in comparison to Zombie scariness. I mean Blood, *bleep*ed up face while biting you.

      Whats so scary about ghosts?

Ghosts can appear out of nowhere regardless of the environment. At least with other horror types, it's pretty obvious where they are, or where they will appear.

One minute you're washing your face, and the next, you look up in the mirror only to see a mean ghost standing behind you! And when you turn around, they're gone! At least with a zombie, I would hear them sneaking up on me or something.

Seriously, ghosts are scarier than zombies. Zombies can't teleport and can reliably be perceived as ambling chunks of meat that can be defeated. No one knows what a ghost wants, is capable of, or if it can be defeated.

Ghosts are pretty scary in games than Zombies. The biggest scare comes from the possibility-of-appearing-out-of-nowhere factor. You gotta play Indigo Prophecy to see effects of the above said factor. *Shudder*

OMG I remember Mister Mosquito! That game was ... interesting.

Anyway, wow! Those videos were awesome. I can't wait for Fatal Frame 4.

Lol, ghosts are not scary at all. In fact, I hardly find Fatal Frame scary. A bunch of flashy images and a white girl with blood on her skirt is not that scary. Zombies are a hell of a lot scarier.

Especially when they are up in your face.

I hate that every survival-horror has to be compared to Resident Evil in some way or another.

Fatal Frame obviously has a completely different style of horror than Resident Evil. The two can't even be compared - They're THAT different from each other.

The scares produced by a zombie and the scares produced by a ghost are completely different.

p.s. There's a hell of alot more to Fatal Frame than a "bunch of flashy images and a white girl with blood on her skirt" >_>

Indeed, and the whole having to go into camera mode to stop the ghosts (just from what I played) made it even more scary. The LAST thing I want to do in a situation like that is go into a first-person view. Hopefully my memory is still accurate on my terrifying experience
