Well it's fact: Some games take forever to complete and then, when its done, it makes you wonder why you bothered. Gamesradar have compiled a list of the games that served no purpose for completing.
Super Mario Galaxy, Shadow of Colossus, and Grand Theft Auto 3 are on the list, just to name a few.

Ever slogged away at a game for hours only to find that there's nothing waiting for you at the end of it? Or even worse, there is a reward but it's the gaming equivalent of a plate full of dry crackers after running a marathon?

We too have felt that pain, so here are our top 7 worst rewards in gaming. Starting with one of the best games of last year.

7) Super Mario Galaxy: Luigi
You've secured all 120 stars. You spent hours on Boo in a Box, even managing to get to a part of the level you shouldn't have been able to reach in your search for this hidden star, before you realised a shell would destroy all those mines around the shipwreck. Eureka! Or maybe that was just us...

But what a journey it is - that moving platform in the Battlestation and trying not to fall in Luigi's Purple Coins tested your gaming skills to the limit, but you did it.

And what do you get? A downloadable Super Mario Galaxy DS like the incredibly convincing fake video below would have us believe? No. We get to play the whole game again as Luigi to get the 121st star. You know, its-a-him. Great.

You know what? Though we love the game dearly and still believe it thoroughly deserves its 10/10 rating, we'll give that one a miss for the time being.

That was a good article, pretty funny. I agree with Pokemon at the top, I haven't played Diamond or Pearl but I got caught em all on Gold and I remember feeling pretty gutted. I don't agree with WoW at number 3 though. They say you get nothing for reaching lvl 70 but there is so much more you can do at 70. And it's really not as rare as they make it sound.

"It takes about 80 hours to beat the Elite four and claim your crown as champion Pokemon trainer."

what a bunch of dorks. it took me 12 hours.

    btw add to this list:
EVERY *bleep*ING NES, SNES, and Genesis game EVER.
it used to be reward enough to know you beat the damn game.

i guess that's because games used to be challenging though.

Haha. You beat me to it.

I always got a laugh out of the NES/Atari games that I would spend days upon days trying to complete, only to be rewarded with a blank screen and the words: "Congratulations, you beat the game!"

Don't forget Captain America and the Avengers at the arcade, finish it, let the credits roll and as you're walking off from owning the final boss it goes on with "CAPTAIN AMERICA STILL NEEDS YOUR HELP"

Apparently that $1.25 you spent saving the planet wasn't enough. =/

Yeah, which Pokemon game took 80 hours to beat the Elite Four? They're probably pretty dense.

Well, I wouldn't say every SNES/Genesis game was like that, but the majority certainly was.

Good list, and hell I agree with it. Not much of an achievement if you don't get good credit for it.

I was happy with Galaxy's reward. You unlock Luigi, then when you beat the game with Luigi, you unlock the Grand Finale Galaxy. (which is awesome)

They should definitely add all Zelda games to that list. All we get is a "The End" screen when we beat it, and it takes us back to our last save. (with the exception of Wind Waker, we got to play the second quest in Link's pajamas, haha)

Zelda games are rewards enough in themselves anyway. No need for anything fancy.

It's not like they're making you do 99 laps around Lon Lon Ranch.

Meh, I think the Pokemon ones take the cake. Well, in Yellow or something, you could use the GBC printer (as if you had it) to print off the certificate, but that is about it....

You'd think they'd do a bit more than that, as a reward....Ummmmm, maybe.....A secret area where you can catch a lot of high level shinies?

Grand Theft Auto IV is the same as Grand Theft Auto III. No real 100% completion reward!

Lol. In game like these, there is no point in beating the games, because they are really fun to just play around on.
  • Super Mario Galaxy is a good game anyway! I like playing it just for the fun.

Pokemon Diamond, I agree with. I kinda would have liked a reward after hours upon hours of playing.

I love Shadow of The Colussus, empty garden included! I thought it was a nice place for sight seeing.

SoC, GTA3, I totally disagree. I thought both of them was rewarding, getting 100% on GTA just so I can cheat and carnage everything, since that's the real reward anyway. Cause you can't cheat without destroying your chance to 100%. But if you already have it, then there's no need to worry.

Pokemon never had a reward getting every Pokemon on the Pokedex anyway, I hardly find Diamond and pearl to be worthy on the list and not every Pokemon in existence.

However getting every Pokemon on the dex is its own reward. What do you want after completing the Pokedex? A new Pokemon? Seriously there isn't anything you could possibly get after completing everything.

I don't believe Pokemon should even be 1st on the list.

I'm going to agree with Pokemon there. I mean seriously, you catch them all. Great! Now what? Uhh, I get every description in the Pokedex...awesome! You get two seconds of glory and if you brag about it, you'll get slapped like a little bitch.

Seriously, would any of you go running around your school screaming "I caught every Pokemon!!"? No.

I so would. Hell I'm an Eleventh Grader and I'm bragging about it. Everyone knows there's like Eleventy-billion Pokemon out there, go ahead and brag your ass off.

Yeah, except it isn't. You seem to be missing the point entirely with this list.

If it takes you 80 Hours to beat Elite 4 the first time, you're very sad.

Now, I agree with everything else on the list, especially Super Mario Galaxy.

Include New Super Mario bros. DS on that. For exactly the same reason as galaxy.
