According to the latest issue of Famitsu, the Final Fantasy XIII demo (that will be bundled with the upcoming Advent Children: Complete Blu-Ray DVD) will last even longer than the Advent Children movie itself, and will be based upon the opening section of the game.
That means the demo will be a grand spankin' 2+ hours long!

Discuss in the FFXIII forum

According to the upcoming DKS3713 issue of Famitsu magazine, the PlayStation 3 exclusive Final Fantasy XIII demo will clock in at a longer running time than the CGI film, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete.

Currently the original Advent Children film clocks in at a runtime of 101mins; however, the Blu-ray version of the movie will feature scenes that were either cut completely or not finished in time for the initial release, resulting in a significantly longer runtime.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete is scheduled for release in March 2009.

    I wouldn't actually like that.
It just means when I bought the game I'd have to play the same 2 hours through again and i'd find it bit of a chore.

Same with me and the start of FFX, but still to get that early preview the 2 hour play through again would be worth the hassle ^^

They usually do it at a spot around 1/3 of the way through the game, so it's a bit better than playing the beginning of the game all over.

I have to agree with Tank. I don't fancy playing the same 2 hours all over again when the game drops. Especially if it's an intro section which will be full of tutorials and the like.

Bare in mind thought that this is probably just the developers attempting to hype their own product.

Add into the equation the fact that it's Square Enix too ...

At the same time though, I must have spent much longer than 2 hours messing around with the FFX demo.

They could get around this by allowing the person to save their progress once the demo is completed, meaning they start from where the demo ends when they get the game itself.

That's unlikely to happen because game demos aren't often at the beginning of the game. While they may have tutorials and appear to be early on, they typically don't reveal the true opening or introduction.

I'm not exactly sure I like this. Besides from spoiling a fair portion of the game I don't want to have to go through this part of the game twice.

3/4 of the demo will be cutscenes.

Most likely since the demo will be of the beginning of the game.

Well I probably wont get the demo, because I want this FF to be all new, but i'll read about it and see what the community thinks of it.

Meh, only if I have a steady job and no serious money troubles, would I get AC: Complete. I already have it on DVD, I'd only get it on Blu-Ray if I had the cash to spare....

I guess this is a good way to hype the game but playing through the same 2 hours again will be a drag.

It will be repetitive of course. But the greatness of Final Fantasy is that most of their games after the first run through are still quite fun. I'd expect that after the demo as well.

No worries. By the time we get the actual game, we'd probably have forgotten all about these 'two hours.'

Well the demo comes out in March 2009 in Japan and FFXIII has been promised to be released in 2009 in Japan, as well, so it wouldn't be long for them.

Remember that this demo, along with Advent Children Complete, hasn't even been confirmed for an NA or PAL release yet, if at all.
