The Final Fantasy XIII demo has been released along side Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete, and a Japanese has taken the initiative and completed a break down of the size of the demo and the movie....and the break down is:

File Size Capacity: 45.9GB
File Size Used: 29.8GB (Advent Children + Demo)
Demo Size: 5.09GB

A whooping 5GB for just the demo...that's half an hour of gameplay and takes up 5GB of space, and a further breakdown is that the videos in the game actually use up 4.41GB of data, meaning the remaining 0.7GB is gameplay. However what is worrying is that half an hour of video has equalled this much space, does this mean that the XBOX360 version will be severely downgraded in comparison to the PS3 version? Or will it just take numerous DVD9's... or will the final PS3 version also be downgraded so that the PS3 and XBOX360 version are on par?

(Google Translation:)

FF7ACC capacity of 45.9GB, AACS MKB V12 did.

Main knitting file size is about 29.8GB, BDInfo average bitrate of the video about the analysis of 27.8Mbps, the average Japanese audio Dolby TrueHD5.1ch about 1.9Mbps, Dolby TrueHD5.1ch average of about 1.97Mbps and English .

I REALLY doubt they'll downgrade it, they'll probably just have like 5 discs for the 360 lol.

That doesn't seem like enough... the discs can hold 9GB, this demo, with around 20-30minute video used 4.5GB, that's essentially half the disc for a short scene. Taking into consideration, that probably wasn't compressed, compressed it must be around 2GB (I assume, feel free to make your own assumptions), and hopefully this game will have around 10 or so hours of cutscenes which is likely with FF games, now 10 hours at 2GB per half hour, is around 40GB... and that's JUST for the videos. There's loads of other things that would need to go into it... if they compress it to 1GB then it's still 20GB (2 discs) for video... depending on when the videos will be, they may very well need 5-6discs. But with the compression, comes a loss in quality... will that mean that the PS3 version will be better?

i think 5 discs actually would be enough. blu ray is like 50GB, and 5 DVDs is about 45GB. assuming they don't use every last nook and cranny of the blu ray - 5 discs would probably be about right.

lost odyssey was 4 discs, and nobody complained. hell, every final fantasy on the PSX was multi-disc aside from tactics, and it was fine back then. suddenly when a 360 game is multi-disc everyone goes bananas and tries to berate the console. :l

People have gotten fatter since then.

Apparently getting up to replace the discs in your console raises people's heartrates too much.

Keep in mind, the visuals of the game are not dictated by the disc itself, so while we still may see up to five discs to store the game, it doesn't mean it will look as good.

But after seeing the Cry-Engine running on 360 just as good as PS3 means that FFXIII will probably look just as good, if not better, than the PS3 version.

Red I'm in shock by what you just said, are you same person that was posting last year, or has some one else taken over your profile.

Would do you mean by it? Red 9 has never been a fanboy nor made fanboi comments, so I'm confused as to why you would say that...

Chill Krunal, I was just joking around, I didn't call anyone fanboys, you jumped to that conclusion. You may not have noticed, but in the past Red was very defensive about the PS3, thus why I found what he said funny.

And after being here awhile I've noticed almost everyone here has a favoritism toward one console, it's shown in the comments they make, but it's nowhere close to fanboyism. For example it's very evident you favor the PS3, and I probably come off as preferring the 360. There's nothing wrong with having a favorite, and I'm really not trying to offend anyone or start a fight if that's how my comments or jokes come off.

Personally after seeing the new Cry-Engine demo in super high quality I can tell that some of the PS3 parts were a tiny bit better than the 360s.

And I agree with Red that the disc space is not going to effect the quality of the game. After playing Blue Dragon with 3 discs and then playing Mass Effect and Assassins Creed that use 1 disc, it became clear to me that the number of discs means almost nothing about the size, graphics and quality of the games.

Any chance the game when finished is more than 1 blu ray disc?

I'd love that to be the case, however seeing how they have 50GB of space, and they'll most likely compress parts of it, chances of seeing 2-BD games anytime soon is out of the question, if ever. I mean we hardly saw two DVD games on the PS2... even FFXII was cut down to fit onto one DVD.

I was thinking the same thing! If only 30min-1hr demo is 5.0GB, what the hell is the full game?

Tis all compressed... to the tiniest size ever...

If anything they'll ask for a 100Gb BD-ROM, 100Gb is available just no-one has ever dared ask for one. It was the same when 25Gb was seen as the limit now that limit is 50Gb but it's not the maximum.

I personally don't care how big it is. The more space the game uses, hopefully the longer it will be.

I don't really mind having multiple game discs for the final version either. I'd rather get up can change discs to get the full value than a watered-down version.

Holy shit 5GB? This may be the first game to really show the difference or significance of Blu-Ray.

For the record, I doubt the demo was compressed.

Still, should be interesting to see what becomes of this.

We know it wasn't compressed, but what is the compression like in the video game industry? Can they really compress 5GB to be less than 1GB?

It means that the 360 version is screwed.

Just kidding, btw. Keep in mind that the demo had to contain the game engines, too- The content itself is probably a lot less than that.

Doesn't matter to me one way or the other. The only thing I'd hate to see would be if they decide to compress both versions just to make them look the same, since I'd be on the losing end with my PS3 in that case. We don't have blu-ray for nothing, you know.

The only good thing is that they aren't going to compress the JP version, so when that is released we can compare that version with the English versions quality and see if they've made any changes.

The reason they wont compress that is because they will be ignorantly unaware about the XBOX360's disc spacing issues when they release the PS3 version in Japan.

They would never downgrade the quality for the PS3 just so it looks the same as how it might have to look on the technologically inferior console. If they have to downgrade the quality so it doesn't use an absurd number of discs for the 360, then so be it, but it wouldn't make sense to make it look worse for the PS3 even though it can handle it. So don't worry about it.

Remember that this isn't the what the final version... The final game may look far better and need more space

The issue of the game not reaching it's full potential because of size limits worried me ever since they announce it. Not that I don't hate the fact that they went multi and/or the 360 (considering I own one), I'm just worried about them cutting stuff out for space's sake so that the game suffers on both consoles. They could omit stuff and screw us all over with DLC which worries me the most (knowing I personally would not be able to resist buying it)
The only downgrading they SHOULD be doing for the 360 is compressing textures and sound. At the worst they might just replace less significant dialogue with text, or go a-la Metal Gear Solid and use in game graphics for cinematics, which, from looking at demo videos, wouldn't be that bad at all.

Lots of discs then, like it's already been said, but it's worth it if you ask me, being a big Final Fantasy fan and all.

It will be downgraded. And you have to remember a lot of the things in the demo will be used again. Music, character models and such will be the same in every scene, which will mean it won't be 5GB for every hour of gameplay.

They'll probably change the cutscenes into the real-time gameplay graphics, or whatever it is to compress.
