What happened to survival horror?

Deathsythe | 15 days 23 hours ago | Blog | PC Playstation 2  | views: 3034
"Resident Evil is said to be born from a Japanese horror movie, “Sweet Home” (which was actually based on an NES game of the same name). Although “Sweet Home” itself took its inspiration in turn from several Western movies, it nonetheless carries with it the strong hallmark of the way Japanese culture treats horror – and that distinctly Japanese fear factor is what made Konami’s Silent Hill, Tecmo’s Fatal Frame, and Sony Japan’s Siren what they are.

The West and the East have distinctly dif..."

All you need to know about the Silent Hill series, before SH: Homecoming is released!

Gothic Girl | 16 days 20 hours ago | Blog | PC Playstation 2  | views: 2713
"I'll summarize them in chronological order, starting with Origins and going from there. Please note that I'm only going to state the canonical endings, if you want to see the other ones, you should buy or rent the games. I highly recommend these games to any survival-horror fan, but be warned: the Silent Hill series is incredibly graphic and disturbing. You should not play them unless you're mature enough to handle the content. And remember, this article contains major spoilers although I've ..."

Ways to ensure the next Silent Hill movie succeeds ...

Gothic Girl | July 04, 2008 | Blog | Misc  | views: 1810
"Videogame adaptations are, on the whole, not great. The first Silent Hill film proved a rare exception to the rule. Granted, it was not perfect, but by the same token it did not disappoint too heavily.
As a massive fan of the game franchise, I have devised a list of things the film makers should do to ensure this second adaptation does not take this promising series and drop it dead in the water.

Limit the use of CGI
Personally, I’ve never, ever been convinced that CGI is better than re..."

Do you want to be a video game artist?

Deathsythe | July 03, 2008 | Blog | Playstation 2 Playstation 3 Misc Gaming Tech/Hardware  | views: 3926
"Art in its many varied forms has, and always will be, a staple of every human culture that has ever walked the Earth. Over time, nearly everyone has debated what constitutes art that’s worthy of display, of reflection; why a single image may evoke a great deal of emotions in one person while it leaves another cold and uninterested. This works rather well for art contained within the many varied galleries scattered across the globe, but that kind of ambiguity will rarely get you honorable ment..."

Silent Hill: Analyzing the "otherworld" and it's themes.

Gothic Girl | June 18, 2008 | Blog | Playstation 2 Playstation 3  | views: 4574
"One of the most distinctive traits of the Silent Hill series is its use of the Otherworld, a bleak industrial version of reality where night persists indefinitely and rusted metal and barbed wire are core components of most architecture. The Otherworld often reflects the layout and geometry of reality, but sometimes it the reflection is tenuous, as the Otherworld version of reality is usually twisted and confusing. The Silent Hill games contrast the Otherworld with the Fog World, a daytime lo..."

Survival Horror monsters that we shouldn't find hot ... But do!

Gothic Girl | June 02, 2008 | Blog | Playstation 2 Xbox  | views: 1555
"We payed homage to the hottest survival horror babes last week but there are a small group of monsters from this genre that have caught our fancy too. We shouldn't like them. They're evil, often grossly deformed and may not even be female. But it's not our fault the concept artist's gave them appealing features. It toys with our poor minds!
Here are the stand-out monsters that caught our fancy while playing........

Name: Bubble Head Nurses
Game/s: Silent Hill 2
Why they're hot: Each Sil..."

The Babes of Survival Horror

Gothic Girl | May 27, 2008 | Blog | Playstation 2 Playstation 3  | views: 3267
" Mention Survival horror and it immediately garners images of Chris Redfield blasting zombies or James Sunderland bludgeoning pyramid heads with a plank of wood. But in the survival horror genre there are as many iconic female protagonists as there are male. Gaming_Issues pay homage to them today.

Name: Jill Valentine
Series: Resident Evil
Appearance: Jill Jill Jill. Where would Resident Evil be without you? Originally appearing in RE1 as a member of the Special Tactics And Rescue S..."
