The latest Playstation Pulse episode contains a list for the top ten most downloaded Playstation 3 dynamic themes on the Playstation Store so far this year.
"Developer Rhino Studios and publisher Natsume have finally brought Afrika, a photography sim, over to the West, though perhaps they left the fun on the plane."
"Afrika may not be an extremely deep game or reach the fill potential that the E3 2006 trailer showed but it's still an enjoyable game despite the issues it has. Taking photos of an elephant or cheetah may not sound that exciting but once you play the game for an hour or so there's just something addictive and very relaxing about traversing the African landscape snapping photos of animals that look and react like their real life counterparts."
""We are very excited about Afrika's release today. We know many PlayStation®3 owners out there have been itching to get their hands on the game," said Hiro Maekawa, President and CEO of Natsume. “It was a real pleasure to work with Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios in bringing this title to North America.""
"Natsume Inc. has today announced that Afrika for the PlayStation 3 has gone gold. Natsume's first title for the PlayStation 3, Afrika is a wildlife photography adventure set in a lush, unexplored region of Africa."
Natsume's digital Safari photo expedition will be arriving in North America a little later than planned. Today, a new release date was announced for this beautifully stunning title.
"When Sony first revealed Afrika, it was a marquee first-party PS3 title used to show off the power of the system. Three years later, it's finally being released in North America, by tiny third-party publisher Natsume, who is more familiar with Harvest Moon and handheld games than anything shown off at a press conference. How did this happen?"
"While it’s good to see the promising Afrika – a title announced prior to the PS3’s launch and demonstrated as a flagship title for the system’s capabilities – back on target, the parade of handheld titles somehow how feels like a slight overdose. Details of each of the games demonstrated follow below, taken from Natsume Inc.’s Press Release:"
"The PlayStation 3 is becoming known for its range of quirky, nontraditional games such as Flow, Flower, and Noby Noby Boy. Now, one of the first announced titles to fit into this alternative category has been given a due date, as Natsume said today that Rhino Software's Afrika would arrive on North American retail shelves for the PlayStation 3 during "early fall" 2009.
If only Toto had been tapped for the soundtrack...
Afrika's gameplay involves players venturing forth into a virtual w..."
"There´s been a lot of talk in recent days about Japanese game development having lost its edge in the face of the West´s forward momentum. Balderdash, we say! Partially because "balderdash" is a criminally underused term. But it also has a lot to do with the fact that plenty of folks are still importing their games. This is great for those of us with region-free consoles who can understand and read Japanese. Unfortunately that´s a rather small number, relatively speaking."
Some people were saddened that Afrika would not make its way to the US. Others didn't care. But after National Geographic got into the gaming biz, they announced that they will bring a game called National Geopraphic: Africa. It is the same game but just under another name.
"Sony representative has apparently confirmed that Afrika will be released in Europe in 2009.
Sony had previously said that the safari photography sim would not see release on this side of the globe.
But reports from a Sony Cameras event in France say an English-language version of the game was on show, and quizzical journalists were apparently told by a Sony representative that it would see a release in Europe next year."
The list of the top selling games has been once again released. Star Wars: The Force Unleashed has come out on top for pretty much every system, doing really well. For the Wii, Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit came out first and second. On the 360, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Tales of Vesperia, and Rock Band 2 came out in the lead. For the PS3, again, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed game out on top along with Afrika in Japan; Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4 came high as well. To see t...
"Thats the job of a photographer: to capture the essence of a time and place. In this case, its wildlife in both its rawness and beauty. Afrika, for the PS3, is game that embodies that purpose. The virtue is found in the observance of nature, which is in and of itself, something grand."
Here is a list of the top 5 video game sales on Amazon, for week 37 in 2008. On the Wii, Mario Kart Wii and Wii fit came out on top for most regions, but beaten by One Piece Unlimited Cruise: Episode 1 in Japan. On the Xbox 360, Dead Rising, Infinite Undiscovery, and Mercenaries 2: World in Flames came out on top. Grand Theft Auto IV and Halo 3 are also up there as well. For the PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4 came out second in every region. Afrika and Grand Theft Auto IV came out top.

Japan's game and hardware sales from last week have been revealed, with Rhythm Tengoku Gold, a Ninteno DS game, coming first. One of the newest additions to the Japanese market, Afrika, came in second with 38,000 units sold. Rounding out the top five is J-League Winning Eleven 2008 Club Championship for the PS2, PSP Fate/Tiger Colosseum Upper for the PSP, and Wii Fit.
Over on the hardware side, the DS Lite sold the most, reaching over 56,000 units! Second was the PSP with 41k new owners, ...
Afrika will be out in Japan next month and there still isn't any word if the game will reach America, but it will reach Asia. Outside of Japan, the game is named Hakuna Matata (the good ol' memories of the Lion King), which is a little strange because Sony usually uses the same name for both Japan and Asia, which is leading to speculate if the Asia version of the game will have some English menus.
Sony showed off Afrika at a show in Taiwan and player got a chance to pick up some juicy information. You are a journalist in Africa and your missions are sent to you through email. You then explore to take the photographs you are asked for, or go do your own thing. The photography aspect of the game is very realisitic aswell. You can change focus and aperture of the camera. The better pictures you get, the more money you can earn to buy better cameras. Also animals react very realisticaly an...
"Afrika, Sony's upcoming entry in the burgeoning savannah-wildlife-photojounalist-sim genre, has been given a final release date and price. It'll be out on August 28, and will cost ¥5980 (USD$56), which is a bit of a worry. I'd presumed this would be a neat little addition to the PSN's lineup. A different way to blow $15-$20. But that price has it pegged as a, well, proper game. And what they've shown thus far doesn't look like it has the legs/meat of a proper game at all."
Some brand new screenshots that bring Afrika into your living room. After under wraps for a while, the gameplay has been reaveled. It is a photography game where you have to travel through the african savannah to grap the perfect picture. Either by foot, on top of a tree, in a jeep or in the air. What ever it takes.
The game will be realising in august in Japan and a price point around $40. So if the game does release in other regions, hopefully it won't be a full priced game. Click the li...
You've no doubt seen the Afrika Screens and found them stunning (as the article suggests they were)... well get ready to view the trailer (available on the Japanese Playstation Network) the video shows a stunning environment, stunning animation and really the game is just god damn beautiful... if only it was coming to the EU...
And for those of you that don't know what the game will be about:
Description:
You will be a photo journalist taking pictures on foot, by car or by air balloon....
Afrika has been quite for a while and was just recently shed some light. After confirming the game will not be coming out for Europe, it was confirmed by Japanese retailers that Afrika is a Photography game. Travel far throough out the African Savannah to snap to the perfect shot, either by foot, wheels or from above in a hot air balloon.
Famitsu has some new pictures from the game and scans have hit the net. Will this games beauty will be overshadowed by its gameplay?
"A Japanese online retailer has unveiled several details on the upcoming PlayStation 3 title, Afrika, including a release date and price.
According to the website, players will assume the role of a photojournalist who will be able to take pictures of various wildlife by foot, jeep or air balloon, as previously hinted at in various screenshots and trailers.
Youll also be able to unlock various footage and real-life snapshots of the animals you encounter, which are collected and stored i..."
"Sony has told Eurogamer that it will not be publishing Afrika in Europe.
The spokesperson was unable to give anything else away, other than to confirm that it will be seeing the light of day in Japan.
Japan, incidentally, is where the third official sighting of the elusive wildlife game has recently taken place in the form of a placeholder website, which shows a rhino waddling across the screen over the words "Coming Soon..."."
The annual Top Ten Vaporware Games of 2007 went up recently, and looking from the list, most of the winning games are PS3 titles--more specifically, PS3 titles that are yet to be released. Well, the rules for this list don't exactly follow the ones of the usual ones. The major one being that the games don't need to have a 2007 release date on it. However, for it to make the list it needs to have attained a certain level of "hype."
And it's no surprise that the No.1 on this list is the much...
A newly released trailer for Afrika from TGS. It shows off some amazing animal animations and visuals. Sadly we still do not know what the gameplay will be like. Rumors are its a photography game, or you are trying to save animals. Others say that it is part of Home and a different world for people to explore. Its good to know that the game is still in the works.
"15.08.07 - Here are some messages from the rumor column of the Japanese Game Labo, of which none was so far confirmed.
Of Sony Africa(PS3) a kind âsearch/investigation softwareâ should be, which uses pressure and touch-sensitive mat for the input. The developers got the order to bring Africa before Nintendo Wiifit one (Wii) on the market."
