Alien Breed: Impact

Alien Breed: Impact

"Retro. It’s a word that gets bandied about pretty often when describing video games. A retro feel, the retro aesthetic, retro influences- it can get thrown into any articles for the most tenuous of reasons. Whether it’s referring to an artistic choice in graphics, simplified gameplay that hearkens back to eras long gone, or just a way to squeeze a few extra sentences out of a subject in order to seem more intelligent."

"The craziness of the past two weeks has kind of slowed down for this week's game releases with only one game that may be classified as major, Alpha Protocol, and a bunch of b-listers including a new game after Madden's crown."

"Alien Breed: Evolution was released to the Xbox 360 this past December but with a number of criticisms. Team17 listened to the complaints from fans of the Alien Breed series and instead of simply releasing the same game to the PC and PS3 as originally planned, they went the extra mile and updated the game to address the concerns to hopefully make a better gaming experience. They even renamed the game to Alien Breed: Impact to distinguish as a separate game and have now announced a June 3rd ..."

"A Burmese cat named Colin will appear alongside his owner, music & audio legend Allister Brimble (hundreds of audio tracks over the years including many of the early Team17 hits) at Bath Spa University this week. Colin was perhaps one of the very first voice-over artists to actually be an animal when he provided the basis for many of the sound-effects that were to grace Team17's break-out hit Alien Breed in 1991 (pictured below), to which a glamorous current-generation sequel was launched on ..."

"Alien Breed Evolution is actually a remake to the original Alien Breed, a game that came out in the early 90s so it’s safe to say not many of today’s gamers have played the original. Alien Breed was a simple shooter but very fun considering the era in gaming it was released in. Now on XBLA Alien Breed Evolution attempts to bring the classic game to a new generation with updated graphics and a more interactive game overall."

XBLA has been putting out some decent games of late, and it's great to see some of the older classics be reinvented, such as Alien Breed (1991), which now goes by the name of Alien Breed: Evolution.

It looks like a great game overall, and would prove a good game to have in your bag-of-tricks as a time killer. Come check out the review by one of our younger reviewers . .neat video as well.

"The XBLA remake doesn’t stray very far from the original but does update the game enough to bring an enjoyable experience, especially to those who loved the original. That said, the gameplay is definitely showing its age and as fun as it is I can’t help but want more from the remake."
