"There have been a lot of issues, but I do want to talk about three things that are doing no good for the industry we love. Anti-piracy measures, an unwillingness to move on and technical issues. What I want to discuss is sort of circular, but I am going to split it up over a small series of articles so I don’t destroy your eyes with too much awesome in one go."
When playing a horror game, your senses must play a key role in the terror that awaits - the greatest sense of all is your hearing. Amnesia on the PC is a prime example of a game that can terrify you just by the sounds (most effective in headphones) because very little actually happens in game. But if you're a gamer who enjoys horrors with little audio; you're a silly man/woman!
"The game will be developed by thechineseroom, and is set to release on PC some time this year. “It’s not a direct sequel, in terms of it doesn’t follow on the story of Amnesia,” says writer Dan Pinchbeck. Rather, players will assume the role of an industrialist returning from an ill-fated trip to Mexico. The game takes place in the year 1899."
Check out Shawn Lavin's debut to RealGamerNewz with this walk into Amnesia: The Dark Descent and gameplay video full of unexpected goodness as this gamer takes you through his ride with The Dark Descent.
"Horror is a genre I never really explored in video games, but with the recent announcement of Resident Evil 6, I decided it would be rude not to talk about it. Most of my experience up until recent years was the terror of corrupted data, the fear I might somehow die before I reached the next save point and the concern that maybe, just maybe, I’d spent money on the wrong game and would have to spend the next few weeks exploring a terrible glitch-ridden world that bored me to tears. However, I ..."
"I did it. I finally decided to man up and do it. I now own Amnesia: The Dark Descent on Steam. Huzzah!
After months and months of talking about how I want to play it, explaining how I’ve been staying away from the game and stalling due to its fearful reputation and thinking to myself what an entertaining version of The Catch-Up it would make, Steam and the universe decided to team up and have a Halloween sale; Amnesia: The Dark Descent was brought down from $20 to a measly $4. “Your move, ..."
Survival Horror games have really taken a turn from where they started. Graphics and detail have improved dramatically, but they don't really give you a legitimate fright. I explore games that have done it well and others that have done it not so well. We can get better experiences, we just need to make sure the developers know what we want.
Halloween is here and Goozernation has a list of the top 10 scariest games to play. There are so many to choose from, Silent Hill 2, Dead Space, Alan Wake, Eternal Darkness, Condemned 1, Amnesia, as well as many others. Nothing like playing in a dark room with the surround sound cranked up.
Halloween is this Monday! In celebration, for this week's Patch article, I'm revisiting one of the scariest games of all time. There's never been a better time to play this game.
With Halloween quickly approaching, PushStartSelect takes a look at the 5 games that could best get you in the spirit of the holiday, while possibly freaking your friends out.
Game Podunk editor MarshallHenderson writes Frictional Games,
a developer of some horror games such as Amnesia, has taken an interest in making games not just for PC, but consoles as well. Read on for more details.
"Sometimes, it takes a little push in the right direction for a game to gain momentum and establish for itself a cult following that simultaneously defends and promotes the game at the same time. Such is the case for Frictional Games’ Amnesia: The Dark Descent. While it does not deserve all the credit, it cannot be denied that Amnesia gained some deal of momentum after its debut in Game Informer. Game Informer’s high praises were the first time I and many others were exposed to the game’s exis..."
Kyree Leary takes a bit of a different angle on his column this week, looking back and some must-play games that he simply hasn't played.
Do you think any are worth skipping all together? Or is there a title in here that needs to be played absolutely immediately?
"Pat takes sick leave and Andy hosts as he, David, and Nick journey through the halls of video game history. We discuss the oldies like Mass Effect 2, Pokemon Black, Minecraft, Left 4 Dead, Medal of Honor, Shattered Horizon, the Nintendo 3DS, and a real relic: the 15 year old Sega SuperGT.
We take a look at what games your tax dollars are funding in gaming news. Trivia continues, and we wrap up with a few movies in casual discussion."
"Frankly, 2010 was a pretty big year for gaming. Kinect and the Move opened the door to motion sensitive gaming for Microsoft and Sony respectively (though neither of which are on the list), and we experienced some amazing sequels as well as some brand new titles. We wanted to share what we think you should dash down to your store for if you find it's missing from your collection."
"One can usually find gems in games like Bioshock, Fallout, and Mass Effect. However, I was looking a new scare your pants off game; and considering I have already discovered those other gems long ago, soemthing else needed to fill the void. In comes a newer indie game “Amnesia: The Dark Descent”."
"Amnesia: The dark descent is a brand new horror game from Frictional Games, and when it comes to horror, this game paints a real picture. True survival horror games are rare these days. Whilst games like Resident Evil or Doom can be scary, they also tend to focus on the action. In Amnesia, There is no gun. There is no weapon to defend yourself, no special potion to protect you, and when a horrifying shambling mass of a creature rounds a corner on wobbly knees, hands scratching the walls, you ..."
"MMGN.com: "2010 was a big year for the gaming industry. The release of Kinect and Move for Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively has all but set in stone the direction which console gaming will be heading in the coming years. Long-awaited releases hit the stores and old franchises were rebooted with the help of keen developers.
There's no doubt that the console industry is flourishing. But what about PC gaming? This year has brought many to the conclusion that PC gaming is dead. But to say that th..."

"Developers all over town are SLASHING prices this Halloween - you could say that these games are SO CHEAP IT'S SCARY. (Please don't hurt me...) What I'm trying to say here is that Halloween's an excellent time for the cheap or thrifty to grab something new!"
"The core team started out as three people, was then reduced to two (just me and Jens) and has now grown to five people. We all work from home and I have actually never met two of our employees in person. Not sure I would even recognize them on the street! :) I actually only meet Jens face-to-face once a month or so. All our communication is over phone or IM.
The core team is not all that work on the game though. For example we have a musician, Mikko Tarmia, that have done music for all our..."
"The monsters are pretty damn creepy. If you're a fan of Silent Hill, you'll know exactly what you're dealing with here. What’s the best way to describe them? Meat-sack people. They all look fairly similar with slight variations, but you shouldn't be hanging around to get a good look at their features. The noises they make are fairly unsettling, they move quickly, and guess what? You won't be able to fight them."
"BonusEXP's podcast crew of David, Pat, Andy and Nick are here to talk games. Featured game discussion includes Amnesia, Plants vs Zombies XBLA, Apple's Game Center, Valkyria Chronicles DLC, the Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes and Quantum Theory demos, Far Cry 2 (?) and the upcoming Halo Reach.
As usual Andy delivers this week's news in gaming and we make up for the light gaming week with some substantial casual discussion."
"It’s a funny old world. My first attempt at a full review of a game began with Frictional Games’ Penumbra, a wonderful title brimming with emotion and horror, but rather sparse in many other ways. It was through that same article that I was offered a place here, and then I was told my first review would be Frictional Games’ latest title, Amnesia: The Dark Descent."
