"Game Play: 8.0 / 10.0

Arc Rise Fantasia takes a middle of the road design into consideration - in other words, veterans will be able to jump right in without wasting too much time learning the game while beginners can use a great tutorial at the beginning to get used to the RPG mechanics similar to other games. You can choose whether or not you want to fight rather than being subject to random encounters so you can choose the pace of your progression."

"Traditional RPGs on Nintendo’s waggle-wand system are about as few and far between as they come, so once every so often when one comes around it is typically a big deal. I was rather excited to blow the dust off my Wii and dive in to Arc Rise Fantasia, which was a joint project between Imageepoch and Marvelous Entertainment. It was initially going to be localized by XSEED, but they passed off the job to Ignition Entertainment. I really, with all my heart, wish that XSEED held on to it and did..."

""Like a starving man at a buffet, Arc Rise Fantasia has a little of everything on its plate, but few of the portions ever complement the other. When you get hooked by a plot-line, you’re smashed in the face by the difficulty of bosses, and when you finish tricking out your party’s gear, you’re usually faced with useless cannon fodder to test it on. Arc Rise Fantasia does a few things right, but uneven elements rarely inspire anything close to excitement.""

"Releases of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, HydroThunder, and Arc Rise Fantasia help get this week's game releases past the typical summer lull period. We also get an oddity this week in Clash of the Titans. Movie tie-in games are typically released alongside the theatrical release. This time, the game was delayed to release alongside the DVD release of the film. Now we'll have to see if that makes a difference in the quality of the game."

Nintendo Wii gamers are enjoying a great year so far with many great exclusive releases in 2010. The upcoming summer releases are also looking quite promising for the system.

"The Nintendo Wii is currently the top console on the market this generation, and Nintendo and its third-party publishers are going to make sure that it stays on top of the game. There will be plenty of new titles to play this year -- sequels to popular franchises as well as new IPs, both on retail disk as well as digital download -- so don't think for a second that it'll be a "sparse" and "light" 2010 when it comes to Wii gaming.

Here's a quick look at the games we're most looking forward ..."

Today, Nintendo has unveiled a new budget lineup in Japan: Minna no Osusume Selection, or the "Everyone's Recommendation Selection". Unlike most other budget rerelease lineups like Player's Choice, Greatest Hits, or PlayStation the Best, which are based on retail sales, the Everyone's Recommendation Selection are based on user ratings gathered from the Minna no Nintendo Channel (Nintendo Channel) in Japan. The criteria for being considered is having earned either a bronze, silver, gold, or ...

With the way things are with the world's economy even the video game industry isn't exempt from feeling the pinch. Marvelous Entertainment is definitely one of those companies who are feeling the heat right now. A staff blog post (presumably by the Managing Director Yasuhiro Wada) states how they feel about their software sales on the Wii. He states how poorly some of their main titles have been selling on the Wii and says that, "I truly have teary eyes. I feel like crying."

However, there...

"The Wii has a variety of titles coming to it these days. Even so, there are many gaps in the lineup, and even worse, holes to dodge when it comes to finding a decent experience. JU-ON is an attempt to fill the thriller genre hole on the Wii with a game that borrows from the original movie property and tries to crank it up another notch."

Hot off of freshly announcing three new games this past week, publisher XSEED Games has formally announced it's lineup for this year's E3 Expo:

  • [PSP] Lunar: Silver Star Harmony
  • [PSP] Half-Minute Hero
  • [WII] Fragile: Farewell Ruins of the Moon
  • [WII] Arc Rise Fantasia
  • [NDS] Flower, Sun, and Rain
  • [WII] JU-ON: The Grudge
  • [WII] Little King's Story
  • [NDS] Ragnarok Online DS
  • [WII] Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga
