"The reason for Activision’s latest legal woes? Band Hero. Apparently Levine who agreed to perform Maroon 5′s hit She Will Be Loved isn’t too happy that his in-game likeness can be made to perform music that “would not have been chosen by him for recordings or performances” Another irritation (and understandably)is that his avatar can be used to perform songs from female vocalists."

"Target, Toys R Us and Best Buy are all offering deals this week meant to get shoppers to make multiple purchases. Meanwhile, K-Mart is offering a hot deal on Mafia II releasing this week and a similar deal on Red Dead Redemption."

"The deals this week are gift card heavy as both Target and Toys R Us are offering gift cards with the purchase of select games for the PS3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii. Meanwhile, GameStop kicks off their Power Saver Sale where you can get 10-50% off of select titles and free shipping. And, if you're looking for a new Xbox 360, K-Mart has a pretty good deal on a new Xbox 360 and Transformers: War for Cybertron."

"Rock group No Doubt has won the latest round in its lawsuit against video game giant Activision Blizzard Inc. over the company’s use of the group’s music and image in the Band Hero video game.

No Doubt sued Activision after the game was released in November, saying its contract authorized the use of avatars representing each of the four band members in three No Doubt songs, but that Activision made it possible for the avatars to be “unlocked” and used in conjunction with several dozen othe..."

"According to sources at both Activision and Neversoft, after the developer completes work on technically-unannounced-but-we-all-know-its-coming Guitar Hero 6, the publisher will hand the groundbreaking franchise over to Vicarious Visions. Vicarious Visions has some history with the Guitar Hero franchise, having worked on the Wii ports of every GH console game since Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. The studio works on the Nintendo DS Guitar Hero: On Tour series as well."

"The eleventh day of Christmas is upon us and that means it’s time for the eleventh instalment of Electronic Theatre’s The Twelve Games of Christmas series. Every day for the twelve days of Christmas we have been looking back at the very best releases that 2009 has offered to the videogaming industry. Today is the turn of November 2009, arguably the most mouth-watering month of the year due to a glut of much anticipated titles. Electronic Theatre aims to advise you on which games you should be..."

"Band Hero is another title that adds to the growing list of Guitar Controller compatible games. With gameplay modes and options delivered in a near-identical fashion to Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero’s strength lies in the approachable nature of it’s soundtrack. With most of the tracks being a reflection of it’s target audience – Jackson 5, Corinne Bailey Rae, Duran Duran and, to a chill for many, the Spice Girl’s Wannabe. However, there are some rather tasteful sidesteps in the form of Cold War Ki..."

"10.) You Are Supporting the “Not Having Seven ‘Hero’ Games a Year” Movement.
While Harmonix does indeed offer DLC every week, they do not over-saturate the rhythm market to the point of it being in your face every other month.

9.) Easy Achievements.
Its those great kind of achievements that you get just by playing the game. No searching every level for a hidden skull or any crap like that, just play your best and you’ll end up with more than half of the 1,000 gamerscore points.

No Doubt, a band that more or less broke up in 2001 because Gwen Stefani wanted a solo career, is suing Activision over the use of their individual likenesses in the just-released Band Hero. The big point of conflict is the use of the avatars singing songs by other bands -- similar to the complaints Courtney Love made about dead husband Kurt Cobain in September.

"The famous saying “one ring to rule them all” does not apply when it comes to music-based video games, that being never more evident than this Holiday season. Activision is making sure there is something out there for every type of music loving gamer (Guitar Hero, DJ Hero, etc.) and the newest addition to the ‘Hero” franchise is the family-friendly, pop-inspired Band Hero. Although the hardcore Guitar Hero fans may not be lining up to jam out with Hilary Duff, with the game’s pop-rock set-lis..."

New releases for the week. Icrontic's inimitable CB Droege covers Lego Rock Band, Battle of Giants: Dragons, Band Hero, and the spotlight of the week Dragon Age: Origins.

"The Guitar Hero music library continues to evolve and expand as November brings a great collection of new and classic tracks from some of rock’s best-loved artists. Fans can download tracks from artists including Lenny Kravitz and KISS and – for the first time - they can import tracks directly from Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero into their Guitar Hero music library."

Band Hero, one of the many games in the guitar hero franchise (sigh) will feature singer Taylor Swift as a playable character in the game, as well as her songs "Love Story", "You Belong with Me", and "Picture to Burn" You can expect to "jam" (ugh) with Taylor Swift on Band Hero this November.

"The drum grip doesn't do anything different other than give a comfier way to play drums in the game, so although it doesn't fit on the old-school chunky DS or the new DSi, you can still play drums using the D-Pad and buttons on either of those systems. Obviously, you still can't play guitar on the DSi without a GBA slot to plug the guitar grip into."

For those of you who've been scratching your heads over what Band Hero is and how it could possibly be different from Guitar Hero, MSN Entertainment have revealed the official trailer for the game. Quite simply, it's supposed to be a casual version of Guitar Hero (which is the casual version of playing the actual instruments, right?). The game features its own set of instrument peripherals and some other changes, such as new modes. However, what's supposed to set it apart from Activision's ot...
