BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

"Sadly, Video-Game music is often stereotyped as being “not really music at all.” Some think Video-Games will forever feature retro 8-Bit stylized music. While others find it humorous that anyone might sit down and listen to say, a well composed Final Fantasy album."

"The PSP gets the bulk of the new games in this week's Playstation Store update while the bulk of the quality PS3 additions are on the DLC side. Take a journey into the mystery of "The Taxidermist" for Heavy Rain, partake in some feasting with Dragon Age: Origins, or hop on to Ryo's forklift for Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. And don't forget to check out the thirteen new songs from Jimi Hendrix for Rock Band."

"The special Limited Edition includes the game, a bonus DVD with around two hours of fighting tutorial guides and deep character specific strategies. Plus a gorgeous ninety-two page full colour book with original art and illustrations from the design team at Arc System Works. The release coincides with nationwide try-it-and-see-for-yourself demo pods in forty HMV stores and a number of online and arcade style tournaments featuring warm up events to crown the UK champion."

OXCGN is always trying to get around to as many gaming related events as possible, to keep the community informed of various activities. Well one of our team, Betho, dropped in to the opening of one of the first Gaming Bars in Australia on Saturday night.

Fans of BlazBlue rejoice, as Aksys Games have announced today that the game's successor, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, will be seeing a release in North America this summer for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Arc System Works' latest fighting game came out in Japan last November.

There are four new modes available in BlazBlue: Continuum Shift: newcomer-friendly Beginner Mode, Tutorial Mode, goal-oriented Challenge Mode, and a Legion Modeset to take over the Kagutsuchi. Three new charac...

"Apparently, someone at Enterbrain made a little booboo and the online info page for the current issue of Famitsu was uploaded with the above cover image... from next week's issue.

It's since been changed back to the current issue, which has Kingdom Hearts on the cover (not because of a new Kingdom Hearts game though -- Sora just happens to be featured in the magazine's ongoing character feature this week).

But, of course, the damage has already been done. Surrounding sexy Nana Mizuki on..."

"Australian publisher N3V Games spilled the beans about the extra content in the European version of BlazBlue.

PAL gamers get unlimited versions of every BlazBlue character plus extra colors for customization. That’s eight more modified characters to play with compared with our BlazBlue. N3V Games also says the European version will be fully online compatible with the Japanese and North American versions. Huh, that’s interesting. Wouldn’t Arc System Works and Aksys have to, at the very le..."

"It happens every year. Both journalists and hardcore gamers flip out over a video game, giving it numerous awards and high scores. Then we sit down to play this supposed virtual epiphany and have no idea what they're talking about. Welcome to the most overrated games of 2009, a collection of massively hyped and underwhelming titles that never deserved so much unnecessary praise, even from us. With that, let's begin."

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger and iDOLM@STER voice-actress Chiaki Takahashi has jumped on the 'sex sells' bandwagon.
A bunch of naughty mouse pads have been made for sale, focusing on her... well, you can see what they focus on, and it certainly isn't her voice talent!

"Zen United has announced that BlazBlue will be one of the featured 2D fighting games at the Super Vs Battle tournament in Harrow over three frantic fighting days. It is the first time BlazBlue will be in the line-up for a tournament of this scale on UK shores."

It's no secret; European gamers tend to get the short end of the stick when it comes to release dates. However, BlazBlue's European release promises to reward them for their patience. European gamers will be getting bonus content such as a strategy guide and a copy of the game's soundtrack, but most notably, "new characters and moves" when they finally get to pick up the game early next year.

"July saw a steady share of excellent games as well as a few movie based bombs. Generally summer is a drought for good gaming, but 2009 seems to confound that logic. Here is a look at what we reviewed for the month of July."

This topic has been heard plenty of times, which are better achievements or trophies. One can question its launch with the console vs maybe a tack on feature. The real question is who values them more for their respective console? The staff at LVLONE discusses the different features each console presents.

Here's a list of this weeks game releases, both on- and offline. The most popular retail titles are Wii Sports Resort on Wii, The King of Fighters XII on PS3 & Xbox 360 and BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Standard Edition on PS3 & Xbox 360.

A grand episode of The Bender. Was posted on Saturday, but didn't get to Grep until now (my bad!) In this episode we touch on the "Black College Football Xperience" video game and how it is possibly racist in title, a bunch of random comic book news, information, and other stuff mentioned (thanks Comic Con!), and touch briefly on the news no one is covering enough, the chance to have your band in Rock Band! Stream/Listen live through iTunes or grab the MP3 here

(I suggest hitting up "...

Serious subjects hit The Bender this week. We tackle the three things you see in the title plus the other gaming tidbits that happened this past week. Listen in to hear why Left 4 Dead 2 is not racist, how most gamers are not homophobic, Allison explaining the economics involved with game prices, and James not accepting MMA as a sport. "BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger is the latest 2D fighter to hit consoles. The game was created by the acclaimed developers of the Guilty Gear series, Arc System Works. BlazBlue is officially known as a spiritual successor to the Guilty Gear series. While Arksys did not stray too far away from the formula, they did add enough to the game to differentiate it from their previous series. Currently the game has only been released in Limited Edition form, which includes a 2-disc soundtrack, a strategy a..."

""How many times have you walked into an arcade to check out what’s the latest in arcade hits to play just to find the DDR master ramping up 230+ Perfects on something like the cruel, cruel song The Legend of Max? Or to stretch your eyes to the sight of Street Fighter champion Justin Wong single-handedly (he might as well) pummel every single opponent daring enough to challenge him.""

TRINE is our most notable release for this week, coming out on PC at some digital outlets July 3, others, including the PlayStation Network, around July 10 (360 owners will have to wait awhile longer). Those wanting to get it at retail can wait a few more weeks. Again, a demo is available, and we can't recommend trying it enough.

Others worth mentioning include FUEL, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, and perhaps the Megaman Starforce 3 titles.
