Looking back at your collection of games can lead to many discoveries, like which ones you bought used. Default Prime author Kyree Leary has made one such discovery. And even though he bought these games used, they led to many new game purchases. He thinks it evens out.

Craig Will of GoozerNation.com talks about losing a co-op partner, finding a new one, getting his wife into gaming, and why local co-op should stick around.

It's not such a commonplace thing for game companies to perform nice gestures for fans to show how much their appreciate their support. Gearbox Software is no stranger to such things, and when a fan requested something for his late friend, they answered the call.

With fall releases in full swing the crew at Goozernation looks back to their ever growing backlog which includes games such as Red Dead Redemption, Fallout New Vegas, Goldeneye 007, Enslaved, Borderlands, Bulletstorm, LA Noire, and Metal Gear Solid 4. The bigger question here is how can a gamer find anytime to play this stuff and how did these games end up in the backlog?

Due to the influence of the arcades, games were designed to be short and sweet. But with games costing as much as they do now, you'd expect games to provide more than just a few hours of fun. Sadly, no matter how big or hyped up the release is, games are getting shorter and no one is being held accountable.

"If you didn’t hear, Borderlands 2 was sort of revealed by Gearbox Software leader Randy Pitchford in a conversation; if that’s not good enough for you, they filed a trademark on the name ‘Borderworlds‘ a while back. It may be unconfirmed, but a sequel is definitely on its way.

While this is all good and exciting, this immediately brings to mind what they’ll do next.

Details are nonexistent at this point, but this is what I want Gearbox to present to us on our second looting-spree of Pan..."

"Gear junkies are a separate breed of gamer. We are rarely satisfied with simply moving through plot-points toward a game’s conclusion. We need to have the best toys along the way. No stock sword will do though. Rather, we want the epic sword of awesomeness that we spent days scavenging for, with +1 to damage and a unique color scheme. Flames are optional, but wholly appreciated."

Today Gearbox and 2K games announced that the free 1.41 Title Update will be released sometime during the month of November. The update changes a lot of things in Borderlands for being something free to download, not the least of which is raising the level cap.

"Claptrap’s Robot Revolution sees the diminutive and humorous (or irritating) little robot take things into his own hands and instigate a robolution right on Pandora... Believe it or not Claptrap’s Robot Revolution has a way of bringing the whole game full circle and brings back a few infamous characters along the way. There’s an indication as to the obvious route of the sequel and even the anti-climatic end battle can’t ruin what is a good collection of new areas and quests."

""Fans have played countless hours of Borderlands to the point of bloodshot eyes. They have tried the different classes and even have maxed out their level cap multiple times through previous downloadable content. So the question remaining is: What else is there to do within Borderlands? Well 2k Games and Gearbox have the quick solution: Borderlands: Claptrap’s New Robot Revolution.""

At Pax 2010 Gearbox has just announced a free patch that will raise the Borderlands Level cap to 69. This patch will be released on the same date as the unpcoming Claptrap's New Robot Revolution DLC.

You honestly have been missing out if you have not delved into the amazing world of Pandora in Gearbox's 2009 hit Borderlands. Well, waiting will now pay off if you choose to procrastinate this experience even longer: a Game of The Year edition has been announced, with plenty of tempting content for latecomers.

Details of 2K Games and Gearbox's 4th DLC for Borderlands has finally been announced. The title is set to feature a Claptrap Robot Revolution and plenty of new missions.

"Borderlands from 2K Games and Gearbox Software was one of the surprise hits in the shooter genre last year. The game's success continued on through three DLC packs that added more missions, more weapons, more enemies and new level caps. Now all three are on sale for hall off this week as part of the Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week."

Gearbox Software, Borderlands developers, has launched a new survey about gamer's whishes for a new shooter. We don't know if it is for a Borderlands' sequel or for a completely new IP but last week's Twitter message may be another pice of the puzzle.

"With the recent release of the Game Room service for the Xbox 360 and PC, I’ve been thinking about gaming as a whole; thinking about the classics, and the re-release thereof, tends to meander in that direction, at least for me. Some aspects of classic gaming have gone away, while some have been preserved to this very day. One such aspect of classic gaming that had previously disappeared, but has come back into fashion in the last few years, is the high score. With Gamerscore being awarded for..."

"2K Games have been known as strong supporters of the PlayStation 3 format in the past. Having brought conversions of two highly successful Xbox 360 titles, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and BioShock, to the PlayStation 3’s belated party, as well as continually supporting the format with every title in recent years having hit both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 simultaneously (aside from the various DLC and retail releases of additional content for Grand Theft Auto IV, of course). However, the la..."

"The recently revealed downloadable content (DLC) retail package for Gearbox Software’s Borderlands, the Borderlands: Double Game Add-On Pack has now officially been dated for Europe. Expanding and enriching the critically acclaimed world of Pandora, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot offer new enemy types, new missions, new game modes and new Achievements."

Borderlands has been patched this week as well as getting a new DLC pack. The patch fixes a number of issues in the game and also re-balances some of the game elements.

Good news for Borderlands. The game has sold over a million copies since its release, with an additional 100,000 having been downloaded digitally. Gearbox Software's president Randy Pitchford recently told IGN that it was the developer's determination to make an "undiluted hardcore project" that ultimately helped it become such a success. When asked about the possibility of a sequel, Pitchford was evasive, but didn't rule it out.

"Over on the GameStop website, pre-order items have cropped up for a "Borderlands Add-On Pack" on PC and Xbox 360. The product description reveals that the pack will include The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned and Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot, retailing at $19.99. The ship date is listed as February 23rd."

The Kartel reviews the new add-on pack for Borderlands and points out what's great (atmosphere, bank, multiplayer strategy), while highlighting some of the issues (no good loot, no experience gain, cumbersome inventory management.) Overall, The Kartel recommends the $10 add-on pack.

Ironically, the list dubbed "Ten Games to Cross off Your Child's Gift List" almost certainly contains at least one game that if on ever member of Neoseeker's list this holiday season.

Now while I'm sure the Times *scoff* has their reasons to dislike this list of mostly shooters and questionable ethical decisions, but that's the main draw (at least for most gamers)

The newly available DLC for Borderlands (the first for that title) brings zombies to the wastelands, and the mad, mad Dr. Ned (whose brother is the totally not made-up Dr. Zed) who has created them.

"Ah, marriage. Once a gamer friend, Mr. or Mrs. Couple has now been tied in the bounds of matrimony and you are wondering if you should still get them the same types of games as in years past. Or, maybe, you are married to a non-gamer and are looking for a way to bring them into gaming this holiday season. Also, avid gamers marry other avid gamers and buying a gaming present for a love that has the same interests as yourself can be difficult. Never fear because Spawn Kill’s Holiday Gift Guide ..."

"Tasked with keeping the workers of Jakobs Cove alive, Dr. Ned does his job a little too well, creating flesh eating zombies and other ghastly abominations that now run rampant in this region. Players will have to work alongside Dr. Ned as they embark on an explosive journey to cure the decaying inhabitants of Jakobs Cove in this expansion filled with new formidable enemies, new gruelling quests and rare loot drops."

"There was a lot of pre-release hype surrounding Borderlands from 2K and Gearbox. Gamers were promised an insane weapons creations system that could synthesize over 1,000 unique firearms and Mad Max style vehicle combat all set against the backdrop of the barren waste-scape of the fabled planet Pandora."

Celebrating the 360's fourth anniversary IGN takes a look at the top 25 games on the console including some new and old releases over the years. Does their gaming environment consist of a dark room with a chair sitting inappropriately close to the television? "Now as brilliant as I find the rest of the game, I had a severe dislike of the supposed plot. Borderlands takes place on a planet called Pandora. At the beginning of the game, you find yourself on a bus being driven to Fyrestone (the first town in the game) with the hope of finding the Vault, a massive underground stronghold of valuable technology. Before you can even put foot to dirt, you’re got some spectral broad yammering in your ear about how you should (now pay attention here) totally..."

"In case you missed the original announcement, this DLC will take players to Jakobs Cove, where a fellow by the name of Dr. Ned has -- perhaps unwittingly -- transformed the local workforce into a rotting army of undead atrocities. It falls on the shoulders of the loot-crazed Vault hunters to discover a cure and bring peace back to the Cove, although let's be honest here: Nothing cures a case of zombie plague like a shotgun blast to the face."

"Gearbox's Borderlands takes place on the world of Pandora, a sprawling Mad Max inspired wasteland populated by a few small towns, savage fauna, roaming bands of outlaws and one giant secret - The Vault. Upon starting the game players are prompted to choose one of four Vault hunters and after a brief stop in Fyrestone, set off on an epic adventure that traverses the inhabited and the more uninhabited regions of Pandora, following a trail of clues to find and attempt to unlock the secret of The..."

"Borderlands falls victim to the problem that most games have when they try to mix two completely different genres. What it ends up being is a painfully mediocre shooter with some painfully mediocre RPG elements, and you can’t help but feel they made some sacrifices to mix both in."

"If there’s one thing that we as gamers have proven time and time again, it’s that we all have a collective, insatiable lust for color-coded loot drops and shooting dudes. Mostly, we’ve had to split our attention between two entirely different styles of game to quench the thirst, but a few sporadic releases have attempted to bring these mechanics together. Hellgate: London comes immediately to mind. None of them have managed to get it right, though. Well, until now."

We made Samba de Amigo for the Wii, so we love working on the Wii. We took one of the Brothers In Arms games and put it on [the Wii]. So we love the Wii [but] it’s not always the best thing. Nintendo sells the most copies, so, yeah.”

"It's that undeniable impulse that pokes at the pleasure centers of the brain when you're looking at that sleek and impossibly flat television at the front of the electronics store. How much better and brighter would life be if only you could bring it home? You consider what's in your wallet, what kind of space rests between credit balance and limit, maybe for a second what your family might think, and perhaps more importantly how jealous your friends would be. It's what drives economies that ..."

"Set in a Madmax-like, furturistic world, Borderlands is attempting to merge the line between first person shooter and RPG (and actually does it quite successfully). Borderlands has taken standard features from RPG games (think Fallout 3), like leveling up, collecting items, and completing quests - and mixed it with a fast paced first-person shooter experience. There are 160+ quests, with around 30 of them essential to the story; and the game has been designed to make you want to complete them..."

"Disregard all the goofy talk about Borderlands and its million-plus guns, or its "Diablo 2 starring Mad Max" premise; the one thing you absolutely need to know about Borderlands is that it's basically Mario Party for FPS fans. No, that doesn't mean that Borderlands is suddenly a board game full of mascots, fluctuating rules, and silly minigames. It's that Borderlands is a game where the single-player ranges from good to downright boring or frustrating; but when you add multiple players to a s..."

"Despite all the great games coming out, Borderlands has become my No.1 MUST BUY GAME for the holiday season. I would even go as far as saying that ALL games from now on need to look upon Borderlands as a shining example of what a great game should be like. That’s a bold statement when you realize that I haven’t even played the game.

So what about Borderlands is making me rave like a converted cultist, potentially riling up legions of fanboys for Mondern Warfare 2, Halo: ODST, or Left 4 De..."

"Borderlands only true downfall has to be the fact that it’s stuck releasing between Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2. If this was releasing in an off-month like June or July, it would receive praise and Game of the Year notions in terms of quality of play; however, due to its release schedule, it may get mixed in the gray of other GOTY-worthy candidates. It also doesn’t help that Borderlands is geared more towards the hardcore gamer opposed to the casual player. Those enjoying the aspects of ..."

Borderlands isn't even out yet and 2K Games ia already talking downloadable content. Tonight they released the details, price, and screenshots for the first episode of DLC, coming later this year.

I am not entirely sure what has been going on recently, but some game developers appear to be taking a page from professional wrestling.

While there has always been a number vocal devs that made crazy statements about their games (classic: John Romero's Daikatana "He will make you his '*itch'" ads) I don't remember a time when so many devs have been taking aim at one another's products.

The most recent industry in the industrial crossfire comes from the creative director of 'The 40th D...

"I was somewhat sceptical about Borderlands after it changed direction some months ago.

Though a huge fan of realistic style First Person Shooters, I didn’t like the look or feel of Shadowrun, or other similar ’sylised’ games, so I was disappointed when I saw the huge change in art direction.

I would rather that the shooter immerse me with realism than try and make it a comic book style of shooter. However, I must say, that after attending a recent Borderlands showing, and having some ha..."

"Gearbox president Randy Pitchford reckons "people are going to be surprised when they find out how quickly we're coming, and with what content we're coming", when it comes to Borderlands DLC.

"Last we heard of Borderlands was that the CEO of developer Gearbox was “terrified” by the upcoming release and that 69-quintrillion weapons would be available for our use. Imagine our surprise when we got smacked in the face by the official boxart this morning, part of which is above and the rest is after the jump."

"The debug menu was fascinating, though, as it's basically a giant database of all the possible combinations of guns you can have, from sniper rifles with shock damage and a blue scope to uzis with flame effects and a red barrel. For each category the total number of possible guns was listed and, at the top, was the total number of guns that could be created with all the possible combinations.

That number was 3,166,880."

Rich Matney from Resumeplay.net focuses on Borderlands, the cell shaded graphics look great, the weapon customization is ridiculously high, and the loot should keep Diablo fans happy for a while.

"This mid-year update allows Plastic Wax to reveal 2009 collaborations that had been kept under wraps for months: the opening cinematic and unlockable cinematic for Activision’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen game, two different thirty-second television spots that mix live action and CG (which involved animating the classic Slimer character) for Atari’s Ghostbusters, and the E3 2009 CG trailer to launch the new Relic/THQ title Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. Plastic Wax also has a number ..."

"Borderlands allows for multiple players to share the same game experience simultaneously online in co-op gameplay. Players can freely join or leave each other's games at anytime, or choose to play in the full single-player mode. These features, along with a rich and deep fiction that touches upon the mysteries buried beneath the surface of a danger-filled planet, combine to form a breakthrough experience that challenges the conventions of modern shooters."

One screenshot isn't too much to go by when judging a game's new art style, so here, have five more for Borderlands !

After the news Borderlands would be completely switching its art style, many of us were left confounded, especially after the sweet E3 trailer. Also, turns out it's not actually cel-shading they're using, but a new technique (we'll be damned if it doesn't look like cel-shading, though).

In any case, its developer has released an in-game screenshot giving us a proper look as to what to expect, pictured here. What do you think?

While going through my financial news this morning, I came upon a nice press release from Take Two Interactive (NASDAQ:TTWO). The most interesting part was about halfway down they posted tables of their releases for the 2008 fiscal year, as well as their projected releases for the 2009 fiscal year.

Nothing that we really didn't know already, GTA: IV PC, and GTA Chinatown Wars obviously caught my eye, as well as Mafia II, Bioshock 2, and Borderlands.

Add that to their recent publishing a...

"The holiday season is fast approaching, and we all know what that means You’ll be playing the end-of-the-year blockbuster games up until your thumbs turn red. Afterward it will be time to look for a new addition to your ever growing collection of games, and we already have you covered for some titles you will most likely want to play when the new year rolls around."

"Blend Games’ Editor Pete Haas would probably automatically tip his hat in favor of Fallout 3, as he really digs the game. And I’m sure everyone who doesn’t know about Borderlands would also tip their hat in favor of Fallout 3. But before anyone does any hat tipping, let’s take a look at both games and each set of screenshots."

"You may have played games such as The Darkness, Hitman: Contracts, BioShock or Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II. I bet you didn’t know that Plastic Wax was one of the companies responsible for the CG work that was put into those games. Pretty spiffy work, eh?"

"I should point out that these are the top five games that have the most potential for being Halo, GTA IV and KillZone Killers via marketing, community support, critical praise and sales. It's possible any one of these titles could be as controversial as GTA IV, or as supported as KillZone 2, or as long lasting in popularity as Halo 3."

"Many gamers who did not read our Borderlands Blend articles were baffled at the comparison, and that’s completely understandable. So for the sake of everyone who doesn’t know anything about Borderlands, you can check out Blend Games Top 5 Reasons why Borderlands will be better than KillZone 2. Two games, I might add, that are scheduled to release relatively close to each other in 2009."

"Borderlands, alternatively, has lots to offer as a shooter, as an RPG, as a vehicular combat-racer and as an overall interactive experience. Yet it takes a heck of a lot to get this game noticed at all. When new interviews pop up for Borderlands, no one seems to notice. One fuzzy, who-gives-a-care screenshot will arise for KillZone 2 and the internet gaming community fills with uproarious exuberance."

"Gearbox has modeled the adventuring and questing after the likes of Diablo and the shooting after Halo. So you can pretty much bet that a lot of questing in Borderlands will render loot-runs and adventuring much like Diablo III."

"For Borderlands it’s a bit different coming into the plot and unfolding the story. The entire scope of the way the story unfolds involve what’s happening on the planet and its inhabitants. Within the macrocosm of Borderlands’ main story resides the individual, branching narratives for each of the three main characters. In other words, this is one of those grand-fantastic adventures that could be a huge summer blockbuster."

"The funny thing about this game is that if you’re not just an avid RPG fan, or a die-hard shooter, you can also be a complete gear-head and still find a niche in Borderlands. There are a number of different vehicles present within the game that vary from the standard dune buggy to truck-like war machines. No matter what vehicle players will drive, each one can be equipped with a turbo booster that can send the vehicle into a warp-speed like speed boost, or extra weaponry to fend off baddies. ..."

"Even with a program randomly generating results out of certain parameters, the team still had to design a butt-load of triggers, barrels, handles, casings, ammo types, effects, palettes and everything else that comprises of a standard video game gun. This means that those 500,000 guns aren’t just simple toss-togethers, but are actually comprised of materials that players will have access to when customizing or modifying their own weapons within the game."

GameInformer, the popular magazine about all things gaming that has somewhere near three million subscribers, always has a different game on the cover each time. MTV wanted to see if there was a GI cover curse, so they looked back into the past and pulled out magazines from 2-3 years ago.

One game titled Superman Returns didn't so well, receiving 6/10's. That's nothing compared to Fear and Respect, which was at one point on a GI cover, but ended up being canceled!

All in all, the game...
